The 2019 ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women seeks to identify and recognize ASEAN-based, early to mid-career women who are using applied sciences in the theme of the “Circular Economy”. The top two finalists will be invited to compete in a pitch competition during an ASEAN Ministerial event in Singapore in October 2019. The overall winner will receive $20 thousand. U.S. Department of State — Building Cooperation to Combat Wildlife Trafficking Between Africa and Asia
The U.S. Department of State seeks proposals to improve cooperation between governments in Africa and Asia to combat wildlife trafficking and implement joint action to dismantle the transnational networks that perpetrate these crimes. DG Trésor — Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Cities in Africa
DG Trésor invites French companies to submit innovative ideas and project proposals on solutions for sustainable cities in Africa. Up to 12 selected French SMEs and startups will receive up to €500 thousand to implement their project idea. Proposed projects can fall within the areas clean energy, climate, water, waste management, among others, and should be implemented in partnership with local African partners. The Takeda Foundation accepts applications for the Takeda Young Entrepreneurship Award. The Award is for young entrepreneurs trying to address real technological and social needs by creating goods and services that enhance the well-being of communities around the world. Past winners include projects in the field of water management, disaster-relief and biotechnology, among others. The winner of the Best Entrepreneur Award will receive 1 million Japanese yen. Applications are open for the World Bank/ACE II Masters Fellowships for African female scientists. Priority areas include agriculture, among others. Selected fellows will receive financial support that covers tuition fees, living expenses, research, and travel. John Ball Zoological Society — Wildlife Conservation 2019
The John Ball Zoological Society makes grants to conserve wild animals and their habitats; to improve the management of captive animals; and to develop education programs related to these objectives. Most funded projects are in developing countries. The principal investigator can be of any nationality and must be associated with a recognized institution (accredited zoo, academic institution, conservation or non-profit organization). The Purley Overseas Trust aims to address the problems of deprivation in the developing world by supporting grassroots projects which allow people to help themselves. The Trust makes grants for small-scale projects across a range of interests that include agriculture, water supply, energy, and others. Grant recipients are development-oriented charities in the UK and internationally. There is no limit on grant size, but most grants are in the range of £200 to £1,000. The British Council and the Newton Fund support the University of Birmingham and the University of Jordan to hold a workshop on the transition to low/ zero carbon transport in Amman. Climate Tracker — Climate and Health Photo Contest 2019
The Climate Tracker, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), launches the Climate and Health Photo Contest 2019. The aim of the photography competition is to highlight the impacts of climate change on human health. Eight winners will be selected to produce a photostory (30 – 35 photographs) and will receive a US$200 cash prize.
