Research Council of Norway — Arctic Field Research

The Svalbard Science Forum (SSF) promotes research activities in Svalbard and administrates funding programs to stimulate data collection and inter-disciplinary as well as international cooperation. Students and researchers can apply for arctic field grants and seed money for workshops and collaborative activities. Both Norwegian and foreign students and scientists are eligible to apply, the latter only if the project is done in close cooperation with a Norwegian institution. The deadline is 10 October 2018. Applications can be submitted through the Research Council’s Internet-based system

Euromena Consulting — Awards for MENA Start-ups

Euromena Consulting launches the Euromena Awards – MENA Edition. The awards are intended for companies or innovative projects with social, economic, environmental and/or societal impact. Proposed projects should be related to MENA and/or be established in the region. The three winners will receive coaching and support for 6 months and the 1st place startup receives a €10 thousand financial reward. Applications must be sent before 29 October 2018. Find out more

Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum — Water Advanced Research and Innovation Fellowships

The Water Advanced Research and Innovation Fellowships fund Indian participants to gain exposure and access to research facilities in water resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Daugherty Water for Food Institute. Fellowships of three to twelve months are for Indian scientists holding a PhD in water science and engineering. Internships of three to six months are for individuals currently engaged in their PhD studies in water sciences in India. The application deadline is 10 November 2018. Link

UK Government — Transforming Energy Access in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia

The UK Government invests up to £10 million in technologies that will help countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia access secure, low cost and low carbon energy. (Note: £3 million of the funding is set aside for bioenergy projects.) International applicants must apply as part of a collaboration with a UK organisation. Eligibility extends to micro, small or medium-sized enterprises. Projects have to be registered by 14 November 2018. Find the competition

Oriental Bird Club — Bird Conservation in Asia

The OBC Conservation Fund makes grants for bird conservation in Asia. Grant-making priorities are projects that benefit globally threatened bird species; that conserve threatened bird habitats; and that are led by Asian residents. Small Conservation Awards are up to £1,500 for projects of 12-18 months, with applications before 31 March of each year. There is a special early deadline on 15 November for projects that have to begin before July. The OBC also considers special and emergency applications at any time. How to apply

Munich Re Foundation — RISK Award “Coastal Resilience”

The RISK Award seeks operational projects in the field of risk reduction and disaster management. The prize will provide financial support of €100 thousand to projects dedicated to increasing people’s resilience to risks and disasters, especially in developing countries. The submitted projects may concentrate on population development, water as a resource, and other risk factors, including climate change. There are no eligibility restrictions but research institutions and NGOs are especially encouraged to submit. Projects have to be submitted by 30 November 2018. More

World Bank and RUFORUM — Strengthening Higher Agricultural Education in Africa

The World Bank and the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) jointly launch a Call for Proposals for a regional project for Strengthening Higher Agricultural Education for Agri-food Systems Transformation in Africa (SHAEA). The Project will support the governments of participating African countries to collectively build capacity and knowledge in selected key areas. Universities from Kenya, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique are eligible to apply if they meet the criteria detailed in the call for proposals. Global Social Venture Competition — Competition 2019

The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) is a partnership of business schools in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with mentoring, exposure, and funding to support their social ventures. Past winners include plans for water supply, energy, micro-credit, agricultural technology, ecological building materials, and other environmental themes. The GSVC will award cash prizes up to US$40 thousand. The deadline for the first entry round in all regions is 03 December 2018. Find the competition

European Union — Kolarctic Cross-Border Cooperation

Kolarctic supports cross-border strategies between Russia, Finland, Sweden, and Norway in the Barents region of the Arctic. Projects may include issues related to environment and natural resources (e.g., fisheries, plant resources, climate change, etc.). Each proposal must have at least one actor from the EU (Sweden, Finland) and at least one from Russia. Eligibility requirements, and the rules on Lead Partners and partners, are explained in the call for proposals. The next call for proposals will open 21 September 2018 and close on 21 December 2018. Blue Earth Alliance — Photography Projects

Blue Earth sponsors photography projects that educate the public about threatened cultures, endangered environments, and other social concerns. Blue Earth provides assistance with fundraising, publishing, and publicity. However, it does not make direct grants to sponsored projects. The next deadline for proposals is 20 January 2019.
