The Arctic Cooperation Program aims to create sustainable and constructive development in the Arctic. The Nordic Council of Ministers will financially contribute to several sustainable development projects in the Arctic region. As a general rule, three Nordic countries must be involved in a co-operation project. A partnership can be supplemented with one or more other Arctic states (USA, Canada and Russia), but the lead applicant has to be from a Nordic country. German Academic Exchange Service — Climate Research Fellowship
ClimapAfrica supports research on climate change and possible solutions. African PhD students are invited to submit postdoctoral climate research projects to one of the following research areas: Agriculture, Climate Science, Veterinary Medicine, Biodiversity, Food Security, Marine Science, Energy, Water Resources, and Forest Sustainability, among others. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) awards fellowships of max. €10 thousand, plus a monthly allowance to cover research costs for a period of 12 to 18 months. Fellows can apply for additional funding to cover a temporary research stay in Germany (2-6 months) to work on a specific research question. The application deadline is 15 February 2021. International Foundation for Science — Food Security Research Grants for Individuals
The International Foundation for Science invites research proposals on accelerating transformation through agricultural transformation in Southeast Asia. The current call focusses on initiatives that contribute to solutions or provide evidence in support of food security policy during the global pandemic, and economic and social crisis. Eligibility for funding extends to researchers from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam, and Timor Leste. German Government — International Climate Initiative Peru
Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) supports projects on climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable energy, and biodiversity projects with climate relevance in Peru. The German Government will support projects ranging from €12 million to €15 million. Fonds SUEZ Initiatives — Water, Sanitation, and Waste Management
Fonds Suez Initiatives makes grants and provides technical skills for projects in water, sanitation, and waste management in developing countries. Eligibility for grants extends to nonprofit organizations and institutions. For projects regarding access to essential services for disadvantaged populations in developing countries, the maximum grant is €80 thousand. U.S. Mission to Guinea — Small Grants for Community Development
The U.S. Embassy in Conakry provides small grants to registered self-help groups and community-based organizations in Guinea. Grants are made in support of projects that improve living conditions in local communities, including but not limited to water-related projects or income generating activities such as agriculture and fisheries. Awards range from US$5 thousand to US$15 thousand. Eligibility extends to not-for-profit organizations, including village associations, women’s groups and civil society organizations. U.S. Mission to Thailand — Annual Grant Program
The U.S. Embassy in Thailand announces an open competition for organizations and individuals to submit applications to carry out programs that promote the US-Thai partnership. The Embassy funds activities that increase awareness of Thailand’s environmental interests, including the importance of water management, among other areas of interest. British Council — Collaborations for COP26
The British Council invites applications for creative commissions that bring together art, science and digital technology and offer innovative responses to climate change. The commissions will be part of the cultural program in the build up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland in November 2021. The council invites collaborative applications from individuals and organizations in the UK with partners from eligible countries and states overseas. Center for Collaborative Investigative Journalism — Africa Water Reporting Grant
The Center for Collaborative Investigative Journalism (CCIJ) supports two water-related stories on WASH, access to drinking water, health facilities and schools, handwashing, and many more. The grant of US$2,100 should be used to cover all the costs related to the story, including fees for team members, travel, and any other related costs. Journalists from Sub-Saharan Africa are invited to submit story pitches and provide professional references. The closing date to submit a story pitch is 18 December 2020. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers two doctoral scholarships at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT). The scholarships are related to the interdisciplinary research topic “Adaptation of marine socio-ecological systems to changing environments.” The scholarships will be granted for up to 4 years. Applicants need to originate from Sub-Saharan Africa and hold a university degree. The scholarship includes a monthly allowance of €1,200, plus additional travel and research allowances.
