The British Academy — Research Chair in Sustainability (Jordan)

The goal of the Jordan-UK El Hassan bin Talal Research Chair in Sustainability is to enhance the research and innovation capacity of Jordan for long-term sustainable development. The call is open to applicants with expertise in any area relevant to sustainability, including but not limited to food security, water, energy and the environment, climate change, and sustainable livelihoods. Scholars will be placed for a full-time four-year appointment at the RSS in Amman, Jordan. The available award is up to £240 thousand per year over 4 years. The application deadline is 06 May 2020. U.S. Agency for International Development — Development of Food Security Activities in Ethiopia

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications for funding for the development of food security activities in Ethiopia. USAID plans to award up to four cooperative agreements with the goal to improve food security of vulnerable households in targeted communities, contributing to a sustained reduction in rural poverty. The anticipated funding for all awarded multi-year activities is US$550 million over a five-year period. U.S. and foreign NGOs, as well as public international organizations are eligible to apply. University St. Gallen — Latin America Mobility Grants 2020

The Mobility Grants aim to encourage researchers from Swiss institutions to boost their careers with a research stay (and fieldwork) in Latin America. Grants up to CHF7 thousand will be awarded to cover travel expenses, accommodation, consumables, and fieldwork. Researchers enrolled in a program in any scientific discipline and field in Switzerland can apply for a grant regardless of their nationality. The deadline for applications is 25 May 2020. Governments of India and Serbia — Scientific and Technological Cooperation

The joint call for proposals under the ‘India-Serbia Scientific and Technological Cooperation Program’ aims to strengthen and expand relations between scientific communities and promote the implementation of joint projects with enterprises from both countries. Priority areas under this call include biotechnology to strengthen food security and energy efficiency, among others. Scientists and faculty members working at recognized universities or research institutes are eligible to apply for funding. The program will provide financial aid to cover exchange and research visits. Projects can be for 3-years duration. The closing date to receive joint project proposals is 31 July 2020. U.S. Department of State — Air Quality Management in Southeast Asia

The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, U.S. State Department, announces the “Building Air Quality Management Capacity in Southeast Asia” program. The project targets government entities with the intend to strengthen regulatory and monitoring capacity of government actors and expand awareness of air quality issues in Southeast Asian countries. The program intends to provide US$296,296 in funding to be used for the production of educational materials, expert workshops, and the development of a monitoring and evaluation plan to be used by key agencies. Countries eligible for funding under this award include: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. U.S. Department of State — Air Quality Management in East Africa

The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, U.S. State Department, announces the “Air Quality Management Community of Practice in East Africa” program. The project targets government entities with the intend to develop, adopt, and implement focused air quality management policies. The program intends to provide US$296,296 in funding to be used for monitoring air pollution, collecting data for policy relevant analysis, and assessing the health impacts, energy, agricultural or other economic benefits of air quality improvements. Countries eligible for funding under this award include: Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. University St. Gallen — Seed Money Grants Latin America

Seed Money Grants aim to strengthen scientific exchange between researchers from Swiss and Latin American institutions. This year’s call focuses on four specific SDGs: (1) Good health and well-being; (2) Clean water and sanitation; (3) Sustainable cities and communities; and (4) Climate action. The maximum funding amount per project is CHF 25 thousand. The joint project proposal with the Latin American applicant must be submitted by a Swiss Principal Investigator holding a PhD and a permanent position in a Swiss Research Institution. WASCAL — Master’s Program on Climate Change and Marine Sciences

The Technical University of Atlantic (Cabo Verde) seeks applications for its Master’s Program on Climate Change and Marine Sciences (MP-CCMS). The West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) offers scholarships to African MSc students. The program includes English language training for participants from Francophone countries, three semesters of joint Master’s courses, shipboard training, and a scientific trip to a German partner institution. To eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be citizens of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, or Togo. Priority areas under this call include biotechnology and sustainable energy sources, among others. Scientists and faculty members working at recognized universities or research institutes are eligible to apply for funding. Funding under this call is only for the realization of non-profit scientific work. Projects can be for 3-years duration. The closing date to receive joint project proposals is 11 June 2020. Link

Beyond Plastic Med — Reduce Plastic Pollution in the Mediterranean Islands

Beyond Plastic Med (BeMed) launches a call for projects to reduce plastic pollution in the Mediterranean islands. BeMed’s contribution is €100 thousand per project (up to 70% of the total project value). Project duration should not exceed 24 months. The call is open all the countries around the Mediterranean. Proposed projects must target a Mediterranean island (or a set of islands). Organizations developing activities in the areas of awareness raising, environmental protection and lobbying, or the development of innovative solutions to reduce pollution are especially welcome to apply.
