The East Africa regional program includes a course in healthy livestock and safe food for applicants from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Invited to participate are governmental departments and agencies, including universities, research institutes and laboratories, cooperatives and other interest groups as well as non-governmental organizations engaged in the sectors of animal health, food safety and antimicrobial resistance. U.S. Department of State — Combat Wildlife Trafficking in South Asia
The U.S. Department of State seeks to build civilian law enforcement capabilities to combat wildlife crime in South Asia. The aim is to strengthen legislative and regulatory frameworks; build investigative and enforcement capacity; and enhance prosecutorial and judicial capacity. The focus countries are Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Eligibility for funding extends to nonprofit NGOs and educational institutions in the USA and other countries, including consortia of local and non-local organizations. World Academy of Sciences — UPM Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme
TWAS invites young scientists from developing countries (other than Malaysia) who wish to pursue advanced research in the natural sciences at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Selangor, Malaysia to apply. UPM will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs, such as accommodation and food. Monarch Butterfly Fund — Monarch Butterfly Migration Challenge
The Monarch Butterfly Fund (MBF) launches an international competition to find a tracking technology that can deliver important scientific insights. The fund offers a $50 thousand cash prize to the individual or team that can conceptualize and develop an innovative tagging and tracking system that can be easily implemented in current conservation and scientific research, allowing individual monarchs to be tracked during the migration. FIRE Africa — Women Empowerment and Community Networks
The FIRE Africa Grants support new projects from organisations led by female entrepreneurs focusing on practical solution(s) that use technology to address specific challenges faced by women and girls. Selected projects will receive up to US$15 thousand and benefit from a series of institutional strengthening and capacity building activities aimed at providing the knowledge, tools and contacts needed to further advance successful initiatives. DAAD offers scholarships for PhD and Master studies. The scholarships are intended for graduate and postgraduate students from South East Asia who want to pursue Master’s or PhD courses in sustainable agricultural and rural development in their home country (In-Country scholarships) or in another South East Asia country (In-Region scholarships). DAAD In-Country/In-Region scholarship holders are also encouraged to apply for a research grant in Germany for 2 up to 6 months. The Western Union Foundation Global Scholarship Program is a program designed to support young people and their efforts to pursue a post-secondary education in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or business/entrepreneurship.
