UK Economic and Social Research Council — Sustainable Tropical Agriculture in Colombia
The UK’s ESRC is partnering with other UK research councils and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) to launch a a new UK-Colombia programme in sustainable tropical agriculture. The focus is on pulses and tropical forages. Proposals for the pump-priming phase of this call will be developed at a scoping workshop to be held at CIAT headquarters in Cali, Colombia (October-November 2017). Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Geodata for Agriculture and Water 2017-2018
The Geodata for Agriculture and Water (G4AW) Facility uses satellite-based information, agricultural inputs, advice, and/or financial services to aid food producers to sustain and increase their production and livelihoods. G4AW focuses on achieving more efficient use of agricultural water, particularly in irrigated areas and water basins. The G4AW partner countries are Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Colombia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Myanmar, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The program invites applications from partnerships of Dutch organizations working with organizations in the G4AW countries, both private and public. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Protecting Biodiversity in Madagascar and the Comoros
The CEPF invites applications for small (under US$20 thousand) and large grants in support of conserving biodiversity in Madagascar and the Comoros. Eligibility for funding extends to community groups and associations, NGOs, private enterprises, universities, research institutes, and other civil society organizations. British Ornithologists’ Union — Grants and Bursaries 2018
The BOU invites amateurs and professionals to apply for its Small Ornithological Research Grants. Research grants are up to £2 thousand to support small projects outright, or to partly fund medium-sized programs. The BOU also offers Career Development Bursaries to support short-term research positions of young and early-career ornithologists in any country. The Big Give — Online Funding Platform
The Big Give is an online crowd funding platform of charitable projects in thematic areas that include environment and animals, emergencies and development, and several others. Donors view the project profiles and make funding contributions through an online process. Most listed charities are based in the UK, although the Big Give allows charities in other countries to register if they are approved by the UK’s tax authority. Link
European Commission — ERANETMED Research on Environment in the Mediterranean Region, 3rd Joint Call
Europe’s ERA-NET promotes the coordination of research at national and regional levels in the EU’s member states and associated states through research networking and the mutual opening of national and regional research programs. The current call by ERANETMED focuses on sustainable water management for vulnerable communities in the Euro-Mediterranean countries. Participating countries are Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey. UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council — Energy Networks in Developing Countries
The UK’s EPSRC invites research proposals that address the energy distribution challenges faced by developing countries. Proposals to this call must focus on sustainable local energy networks, including off-grid to grid transitions. Principal investigators must represent UK research institutions. Appropriate collaborators in one or more low- or middle-income countries are a mandatory requirement. Applicants should submit an expression of interest by 17 August 2017. Link
Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology — Research Proposals 2018-2019
The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP) welcomes research proposals in support of its program “Forging Ahead with Tropical Biology for Environmental and Societal Transformations in Southeast Asia.” The focal areas are restoration of degraded ecosystems; sustainable management of intensively-used ecosystems and landscapes; and conservation and sustainable use of unique ecosystems and landscapes of high biodiversity. U.S. Agency for International Development — Watershed Management in Peru
USAID invites applications to scale up investments in green infrastructure in Peru as a strategy to regulate water supply and increase resilience to climate change. The five-year program will aim to build public awareness and political support for improved management of Andean watersheds, and to propose site-specific projects that invest in ecosystem services to reduce soil erosion and improve water supply.
