UCL supports interdisciplinary research on themes relating to one or more of the Nahrein Network’s five aims through the Research Grant Awards program. The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in any one of the following countries: Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkmenistan. The priorities under this call include one on environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as on water management. The average contribution is expected to be in the range of C$15 thousand to C$30 thousand per project. Larger projects may be considered on an exceptional basis. Internationally, the Caterpillar Foundation has supported projects in tropical forest conservation and afforestation; water and sanitation; food and agriculture; alternative (low-carbon) transportation systems; urban waste recycling; and other themes related to environment and natural resources. The Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations such as development NGOs, universities and institutes, foundations, museums, conservation groups, and others. The goal of this program is to improve and increase abilities to interdict illegal wildlife products in Africa through the use of canine detection. Projects must enhance and operate wildlife detection dog programs at key transit points in Africa to interdict illegal wildlife products. Organizations wishing to apply to this NOFO must have a proven track record of creating and running successful detection dog programs. The total funding amount is not to exceed US$1 million.
