The Scottish Government’s International Development Small Grants Programme provides project funding in support of the government’s International Development Policy. Applications for grants are invited from incorporated not-for-profit organisations which have a presence in Scotland and an annual turnover of less than £150 thousand. The priority countries are: Bangladesh, India (states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Orissa), Malawi, Pakistan, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia. Awards are a maximum of £60 thousand for project grants over three years, or a maximum of £10 thousand for feasibility and capacity building grants over one year. University of California at Davis — Horticulture Innovation Lab
With funding provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Horticulture Innovation Lab makes research grants in support of agricultural development. The Lab is soliciting proposals on improving post-harvest handling, storage, and marketing of tomatoes for Burkina Faso (deadline: 12 September 2016). It also calls for research proposals on dried apricots in Tajikistan (deadline: 12 September 2016). Additionally, the Lab invites concept notes for research on integrated animal-horticulture systems, particularly for Cambodia, Nepal, and Rwanda (deadline: 19 September 2016). Proposals led by U.S. university researchers will be given priority for funding. However, some programs are open to additional participation. Link
International Tree Foundation — Sustainable Community Forestry Programme
The International Tree Foundation makes grants through its Sustainable Community Forestry Programme to conserve and restore local forest resources and associated biodiversity; improve local livelihoods; and increase resilience to climate change. ITF welcomes applications for community tree projects in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. The applying organization must be a registered NGO in the country where the project will take place. Grants are up to £3,000 for one year, with the possibility of applying for a second year. The deadline for applications is 17 October 2016. Link
Wuppertal Institute — Knowledge Exchanges for Renewable Energy
SEPS (Sustainable Energy Project Support) will fund knowledge exchanges that promote small-scale renewable energy. The countries considered for this call are those within the Caribbean, South and Central America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. The target groups of the knowledge exchanges are energy practitioners and organisations, together with other stakeholders, in the eligible priority regions. UK Natural Environment Research Council — Research Workshop on Water Quality in India
NERC and the UK’s Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council invite applications from UK scientists to attend a workshop organised jointly with India’s Department of Science & Technology on the theme of improved water quality in India. The workshop will be held in Delhi (November 2016) to define the scope of a potential new interdisciplinary research programme by the two countries. Michigan State University — Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences, Bangladesh
With funding from the U.S. government, the Borlaug Higher Education Agricultural Research and Development (BHEARD) Program supports long-term training of agricultural and food security researchers and policy advisors at the master’s and doctoral levels. The program currently includes scholarships for staff and faculty members at selected institutions in Bangladesh to pursue doctoral studies at universities in India. Tata Group — Tata Social Enterprise Challenge, 5th Edition
The Tata Group, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC), seeks to identify promising social enterprises in India. Proposals are invited for social enterprises in agriculture, water and sanitation, energy, and other thematic areas. The proposed enterprises should create social impact in India, although applicants do not have to be Indian nationals. Selected social entrepreneurs are offered funding opportunities, mentorship, and an opportunity to be incubated at IIM Calcutta’s Incubation Center. WWF in India — Small Grants Program
WWF-India offers grants up to Rs. 400 thousand for conservation research or action projects of up to two years. Grants are made to individuals to be utilized primarily for field activities. Priority is for research and conservation aligned with WWF’s program in India. The application period is 01 October through 31 December of each year. Link
BRICS Scientific, Technological, and Innovation Framework Programme — Pilot Call for Proposals 2016
The BRICS Scientific, Technological and Innovation Framework Programme announces a call for research proposals on priority areas which can best be addressed by a multinational approach. The multiple themes include water resources and pollution treatment; promotion of renewable energy and energy efficiency; and prevention and monitoring of natural disasters. The framework program is supported by funding organizations in Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Proposals should include collaborators from at least three countries. U.S.-India Partnership to Advance Clean Energy (PACE) — Off-Grid Clean Energy in India, 2nd Funding Round
The PACEsetter Fund aims to accelerate the commercialization of off-grid clean energy by providing early-stage grants that allow businesses to develop and test innovative products, business models, and systems. Projects must focus on small-scale systems that improve the viability of off-grid renewable energy for under-served individuals and communities in India that do not have grid-connected power, or that have limited or intermittent access.
