The Earth Care Awards recognize efforts to promote resilience to climate change and reduction of greenhouse gases in the development of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The awards are co-sponsored by the Nehru Foundation for Development, the JSW Foundation, the TERRE Policy Centre, and The Times of India. The award categories are: community-based mitigation and adaptation in water resources, agriculture, forestry, and other land use; innovations for climate protection; mitigation of greenhouse gases in large enterprises; and leadership in urban climate action. The three winners in each category will each receive a citation and trophy. In the community and innovation categories, the awards also include a cash payment. Research Council of Norway — International Cooperation in Aquaculture 2018
The Research Council of Norway funds international cooperation in its HAVBRUK2 program of aquaculture research. Funding is available for project establishment support for international projects; personal visiting researcher grants; and personal overseas research grants. Priority will be given to collaboration with researchers in the EU, USA, Canada, China, Japan, India, Chile, and Brazil. Collaboration with researchers in other countries will also be of interest. WISIONS of Sustainability is an initiatives of the Wuppertal Institute to nurture innovative energy projects and to foster knowledge exchanges between practitioners. The supporting scheme SEPS (Sustainable Energy Project Support) has launched its first call for proposals in 2017 to focus on projects and knowledge exchanges for the Caribbean, South and Central America, and Southern and Southeast Asia. U.S. Department of State — Building Capacity for Wildlife Protection in Africa and Asia
The U.S. government will fund nonprofit NGOs and institutions of higher education to reduce the poaching and trafficking of wildlife through effective programming in key locations of Africa and Asia. The primary countries of engagement may include one or more of the following countries in Africa: Botswana, Cameroon, Chad, Congo (Brazzaville), Gabon, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia, and/or, one or more of the following countries in Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. The project will provide wildlife rangers and police with non-lethal equipment such as boots, uniforms, backpacks, hydration equipment, appropriate outdoor clothing, patrol equipment, tents, radios, communication equipment, and vehicles. Proposals must demonstrate an existing and on-going relationship with the organizations responsible for park, range, or game reserve management and/or with the recipient organization of the equipment. Global Cleantech Innovation Programme — Clean Technology for SMEs 2017
The Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) for small and medium enterprises is co-sponsored by the GEF, UNIDO, and national institutions in the participating countries. The GCIP aims to spur local innovations in energy efficiency, green buildings, renewable energy, waste management, and water efficiency. Each country manages a competition to identify promising entrepreneurs and a business accelerator to connect them to potential investors, customers, and partners. The rules of participation, and the benefits of the program, vary by country. Indian Council of Agricultural Research — Doctoral Fellowships in Agriculture 2017-2018
ICAR announces thirty Netaji Subhas-ICAR international fellowships for doctoral degrees in agriculture and allied sciences at agricultural universities and institutions in India and abroad. Japan Society for the Promotion of Science — RONPAKU Fellowships for PhD Students 2018
The RONPAKU fellowships are a program of the JSPS to support students from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa to pursue PhD degrees at Japanese universities. Each fellow submits a research dissertation co-supervised by an advisor in Japan and an advisor in the fellow’s home country. The fellows do not pursue doctoral courses in Japan (i.e., dissertation only). RONPAKU will award about 20 fellowships across all subject areas. The application deadline is 25 August 2017 for submissions to RONPAKU from Japanese universities; applicants need to send their documents to their prospective Japanese advisors in advance of this deadline. European Commission — Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in European Overseas Territories
The EC funds the program Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in European Overseas Territories (BEST) in order to fund actions on the ground, both at the local and regional level. BEST 2.0 is open to applications for projects in the overseas territories of the Caribbean, Pacific, South Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Polar/Sub-polar regions. Small grants are up to €100 thousand; medium grants are €100 thousand to €400 thousand. Potential applicants include local civil society organisations; small for-profit organisations; municipalities; OT governments and their departments and services; European Member State bodies; and regional and international organisations. United States – India Educational Foundation — Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships
The Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships are for Indian scholars who are registered for a Ph.D. at an Indian institution. The fellowships are for six to nine months at institutions in the USA in fields that include agricultural sciences; energy studies; urban and regional planning (with emphasis on smart cities and waste management); materials science (with emphasis on environmental applications); and others.
