10YFP Trust Fund — Sustainable Food Systems

The 10YFP Sustainable Food Systems Program aims to accelerate the shift towards more sustainable food systems in developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The program focuses on awareness raising, capacity development, facilitating access to knowledge and information, and strengthening partnerships all along the food value chain.  Preference is for projects that have complementary funding, and projects being implemented in multiple countries. Grants are US$50 thousand to US$80 thousand for Immediate Action Projects; grants are US$100 thousand to US$200 thousand for Strategic Impact Projects. Eligibility for funding extends to partner organizations in the SFS Program. The closing date for submitting application forms is 15 January 2017. Link

Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association — Travel Grants to Participate in 10th Symposium

The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), in partnership with collaborating institutions in Tanzania, announces the 10th WIOMSA Scientific Symposium to be held in Dar es Salaam in October-November 2017. Abstracts are invited on any topic related to the coastal and marine environment of the West Indian Ocean. WIOMSA will provide a limited number of travel grants to regional participants whose abstracts have been accepted, with priority for students. The deadline to submit abstracts is 28 April 2017. The deadline to apply for travel grants is 31 July 2017. Link

São Paulo Research Foundation — Brazil/USA Research in Biodiversity 2017

The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) invite researchers to submit 5-year projects for scientific cooperation through their programs, BIOTA and Dimensions of Biodiversity. Research projects must integrate the three dimensions of biodiversity: genetic, phylogenetic, and functional. Researchers associated with public or private higher education or research institutions in the State of São Paulo submit their proposals to FAPESP. U.S. researchers submit to NSF. The deadline for submitting pre-proposals is 02 December 2016. Link

International Council for Science — IRDR Young Scientists Program

The International Council for Science, in collaboration with several partner organizations, invites applications for the IRDR (Integrated Research on Disaster Risk) Young Scientists Program. The program offers scientists under age 40 of any nationality the opportunity to engage with a global network of professionals and practitioners. Benefits include international linkages and the possibility to be invited for additional training. Applicants need to be affiliated with an academic program (either master or doctorate), either as a student or as a young faculty. The closing date for applications is 10 December 2016. Link

International Association for Plant Taxonomy — Research in Plant Systematics

The IAPT announces the 2017 round of its competitive grants program in plant systematics, with emphasis on funding students and young investigators in developing countries, but open to applicants worldwide. The award should preferably be used for supporting travel to institutions, laboratory investigations, or fieldwork (if this includes interaction with in-country specialists). The maximum grant is US$1 thousand. The application deadline is 31 January 2017. Link

Indo-US Science and Technology Forum — Bioenergy Awards

The IUSSTF’s program Bioenergy – Awards for Cutting Edge Research (B- ACER) aims to nurture contacts between students and scientists from India and the USA in frontline area of biofuels and bioenergy. Opportunities are available for Indian citizens to pursue internships and fellowships at reputed U.S. scientific/technological institutions or laboratories to undertake the research work. The application deadline is 15 December 2016. Link

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Africa Program 2017

The program “Wildlife Without Borders” includes a regional component for Central Africa. Funding in 2017 will focus on projects that impact wildlife populations in the following countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Congo, Dem Rep Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda, and São Tomé and Príncipe. The announcement defines the priority themes.  Applications are open to qualified individuals; multi-national secretariats; institutions of higher education; and nonprofit NGOs. The application deadline is 17 January 2017. Link

Inter-Research Science Center — Prizes and Fellowships 2017

The International Ecology Institute in Germany annually selects top performers worldwide in the field of ecology for the Ecology Institute Prize and the IRPE Prize. The winner of the Ecology Institute Prize will be awarded €6 thousand; the winner of the IRPE Prize will receive €3 thousand. Nominations are invited from research ecologists worldwide. The closing date for nominations is 30 April 2017.  Additionally, the Center calls for nominations for the Otto Kinne Foundation Fellowship, with deadline on 31 October 2017. Link

India Department of Science and Technology — Bilateral Research Collaboration

India’s DST calls for proposals of bilateral research in thematic areas that include energy, environment, climate change, plant-based medicines, and many others — varying with each program area. Calls with application deadlines in November 2016, December 2016, and January 2017 include joint research with Australia, Israel, Italy, Russia, Sri Lanka, and Switzerland.  Link
