The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) makes reporting grants to Indigenous and tribal journalists globally to support the production of investigative reporting on environmental and climate issues. EJN expects to award up to 5-6 grants of up to US$3,000 each. The Fund supports women’s and girls’ empowerment, particularly through projects favoring social or professional integration and education. Specific attention is paid to refugee women and women with disabilities. Eligibility extends to grassroots non-profit organizations. Commonwealth Foundation — Grants for Civil Society in Commonwealth Countries
The Commonwealth Foundation makes grants to civil society organizations in Commonwealth countries to support participatory governance. (Note: This could include participatory governance related to the management of forests, wildlife, water supplies, and other subjects in natural resources and the environment.) The total grant amount requested must be between £15 thousand and £30 thousand per year for a maximum of two years. A list of eligible countries is included in the call. Asia Foundation — Leadership Program U.S./Asia
The Asia Foundation seeks applications to the “LeadNext: Ambassadors for a Global Future” program. LeadNext Fellows focus on creative approaches to addressing issues such as climate change, inequality, injustice, poverty, or other pressing issues. Fellows meet 1-3 times a week over several weeks to build competencies in social change leadership. All program expenses including travel, housing, and food are provided at no cost to fellows. The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) seek photographs that highlight the role of forests and trees in protecting the planet’s biodiversity. Entries can show trees in forests, on farms, in landscapes or any subject that depicts why trees matter to all forms of life on Earth. Smithsonian Institution — Resilience and Sustainability Science Postdoctoral Fellowship
Smithsonian seeks to support up to five post-doctoral fellows as they conduct independent research in support of the Smithsonian’s goals to understand and expand resilience. These fellows will be able to leverage the Smithsonian’s resources, including its scientists, collections, exhibits, and data sets, to advance scientific understanding of resilience and sustainability in either marine or terrestrial systems. Recipients will receive a stipend of $62 thousand per year for Postdoctoral Fellows. Stipends are prorated for periods of less than 24 months. A maximum research allowance of $10 thousand is available for the fellowship period. The fellowship program is open to qualified applicants worldwide. The “Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards” aim to reward young changemakers from all over the world who contribute actively towards a better alignment of economic prosperity with environmental sustainability. The award seeks to recognize impactful youth-led projects and initiatives that drive change on the ground. Projects can be social enterprises as well as youth-led nonprofit initiatives. Italian Agency for Development Cooperation — Amazon Program
The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation announced a call for proposals to foster effective and sustainable cooperation with non-governmental organizations, with the aim of implementing concrete initiatives that contribute to strengthening local capacities and preventing deforestation and forest degradation of the Amazon Rainforest. The actions must be located in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. The approximate total amount amount is €1,5 million. To be able to opt for a subsidy, the applicant principal must be a civil society organization based in one of the eight countries of the Amazon basin or the European Union with a domicile abroad. Munich Re Foundation — RISK Award “Children and Youths”
The RISK Award seeks operational field projects in risk reduction and disaster management. The prize will provide financial support of €100 thousand to projects dedicated to increasing people’s resilience to risks and disasters, especially in developing countries. The submitted projects may emphasize the importance of children and young people as agents of change. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Conservation of Neotropical Migratory Birds 2025
The U.S. Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act sponsors an annual competitive grants program to support the conservation of neotropical migratory birds and their habitats in the USA, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean. At least 75 percent of funding supports projects outside the USA. Grant requests have to be matched by partner contributions at no less than a 3-to-1 ratio. Eligibility to compete for funding is unrestricted. Applications should be submitted in English, but the program will accept accompanying versions of the application in Spanish and Portuguese.
