British Academy — International Interdisciplinary Research 2024

Knowledge Frontiers provides UK-based researchers active in the social sciences and the humanities with an opportunity to develop international interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with colleagues from the natural, engineering and/or medical sciences. The British Academy invites proposals for projects which focus on the interaction between technology, nature and humanity. The lead applicant must be based at a UK university or research institute. Projects must involve at least one co-applicant who can be based in the UK or overseas. Awards of 24 months in duration and up to £300 thousand are available. American Association for the Advancement of University Women — International Fellowships 2024

The American Association for the Advancement of University Women (AAAUW) provides support for women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the USA who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Preference is given to women who show prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work. Fellows represent all subject areas, including those important in the Terra Viva Grants Directory. Fellows receive between US$20 thousand and US$50 thousand to pursue their studies. Royal Geographical Society — Gilchrist Fieldwork Award

The Royal Geographical Society invites applications for the Gilchrist Fieldwork Award. The aim of the award is to support challenging overseas fieldwork projects carried out by a team of university academics and researchers. The team should comprise up to 10 members, the majority of whom should be British. Previous winning themes include climate change, ecosystem function, climate science and ocean circulation. Schlumberger Foundation — Funding for Women in PhD and Postdoctoral Studies

Schlumberger Foundation’s ‘Faculty of the Future’ supports women in developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD and postdoctoral studies at the international level. Grants are in the physical sciences, engineering, and related fields — including past grants in subjects such as ecology and environment. Grants can be up to US$50 thousand per year for PhD courses and a maximum of US$40 thousand for post-doc research programs. The deadline to submit new applications is 11 November 2023. American Philosophical Society — Fund for Exploration and Field Research

The Lewis and Clark Fund for Exploration and Field Research supports doctoral students to collect specimens and data in disciplines relying heavily on field studies, e.g., including biology, ecology, geography, and others. Applicants from the USA may use the grants for research anywhere in the world. Applicants from other countries must be based at an institution in the USA, or carry out their work in the USA. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations — World Food Day Poster Contest (Age 5-19)

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FOA) calls on children and teens from all over the world (age 5 to 19) to use their imagination and create a poster of their water action for food. “Water is life, water is food” explores the ways this precious natural resource is important for food and for all of nature. Teach A Man To Fish — School Enterprise Challenge 2023

The School Enterprise Challenge is an international business program for schools run by the educational charity Teach A Man To Fish. It guides and supports teachers and students to plan and set up real, sustainable school businesses and generate real profits to help support their school or a social cause of their choice. Thematic areas include agriculture, drinking water and sanitation, and the environment, among others. Prizes are between US$250 and US$5 thousand, including in-kind donations like laptops and cameras. Please note that only pre-primary schools, primary schools, secondary schools and technical/vocational colleges are eligible (universities are not eligible to apply).
