The NEF Research Grants support academic and scientific research that will deepen knowledge of nature conservation in developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Applicants should be nationals of Asian-Pacific countries, and research projects should be carried out in their home countries. Grants are a maximum of ¥500 thousand for a maximum of two years. The International Herpetological Symposium (IHS) provides financial assistance to individuals or organizations conducting herpetological research, conservation, and education. Travel Grants are available to Arab students or professionals seeking professional contact or experience in the Netherlands and vice versa. A maximum of €2 thousand is awarded for one year. Eligible fields of study include Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery, Environmental Sciences, Natural sciences and others. Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association — MSc Scholarships for Coral Research
The Coral Research & Development Accelerator Program (CORDAP) offers two MSc scholarships designed for Tanzanian citizens, focusing on the restoration of the coral reefs. Candidates will conduct scientific investigations to assess fish colonization patterns, focusing on metrics such as fish abundance, diversity, and trophic composition. Earth Journalism Network — Virtual Media Workshop: Marine Protected Areas
Earth Journalism Network (EJN) hosts a three-day virtual media workshop (during the week of March 3, 2025) for journalists in coastal countries to learn about the 30×30 marine conservation target and initiatives being implemented to reach it. Applicants can be from coastal countries anywhere in the world. Applications are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and other media practitioners with experience covering ocean issues. United Nations — Local Pathways Fellowship
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network – Youth Initiative (SDSN Youth) recruits participants for its 2025 cohort of the Local Pathways Fellows. The 10-months fellowship program provides young leaders with a platform, capacity building, training opportunities and contacts of leading development experts and practitioners. The Local Pathways Fellowship is unpaid. Fellows will benefit from global visibility and exposure. Young candidates (18-30 years) working towards achieving any of the Sustainable Development Goals and representing any city or country in the world are encouraged to apply. World Academy of Sciences — Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Brazil
In partnership with the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Brazil’s National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) invites young scientists from developing countries other than Brazil to pursue postdoctoral research in natural sciences at selected Brazilian research institutions for periods of 6-12 months. Subject areas include agricultural sciences, biological sciences, and many others. CNPq will provide a standard monthly allowance which should be used to cover living costs such as accommodation, food, and health insurance. The application deadline is 31 January 2025. Link
Aga Khan Foundation — International Scholarships
The Aga Khan Foundation supports programs in rural development, broadly defined, in several developing countries. It provides scholarships and loans for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from the developing world, with priority for master’s studies. The Foundation also considers applications for PhD programs in certain circumstances. Applications are invited from the following nationalities: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Kenya, Kyrgyz Republic, Madagascar, Mozambique, Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, and Uganda. The Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses only. Please note that half of the scholarship amount is considered as a loan, which must be reimbursed. Tony Elumelu Foundation — Entrepreneurship Program for Africans 2025
The Tony Elumelu Foundation fosters and supports start-up enterprises in Africa. The TEF Entrepreneurship Program provides mentoring, training, forums, seed capital, and alumni support to individuals in Africa proposing new business ideas or early-stage companies in sectors that include agriculture, among others. Participants receive up to US$5 thousand in seed capital. The program is open to citizens and legal residents ages 18 and older in any African country. UNESCO — Fellowship for Young Women Scientists in Africa
Nominations for the UNESCO-Equatorial Guinea Fellowship Program for Young Women Scientists in Africa are open. The initiative aims to bridge the persistent gaps on the African continent and is designed to offer targeted support and focuses on promoting equal opportunities in science, by creating concrete opportunities for young women to become actively involved in various life science disciplines. Two young women will be awarded a grant of US$25 thousand each to advance their research and foster a promising scientific career.
