The Baillet Latour Antarctica Fellowship of €150 thousand over two years provides young scientists with the opportunity to conduct research in East Antarctica. The program is open to young researchers in atmospheric sciences, glaciology, and geosciences and microbiology (excluding marine microbiology). Michigan State University — Graduate Studies in Meteorology for Mali
With funding from the U.S. government, the Borlaug Higher Education Agricultural Research and Development (BHEARD) Program supports long-term training of agricultural and food security researchers and policy advisors at master’s and doctoral levels. The program currently includes scholarships for staff at selected agricultural and meteorological institutions in Mali to pursue graduate studies in meteorology. Additionally, the program is open to NGO personnel in the Mopti region who are working in subjects of environment and climate. Applications from women candidates are particularly encouraged. Association of African Universities — Training in Practical Skills
With financial support from the government of Sweden, the AAU will make grants of up to US$600 per person to help post-graduate university students acquire practical skills via internships of 12-24 weeks. The grants are for training purposes only, not for the completion of theses or dissertations. World Intellectual Property Organization — Indigenous Fellowship Program 2017-2018
The World Intellectual Property Organization offers the WIPO Indigenous Fellowship to build stronger capacity in the field of indigenous intellectual property law, and to strengthen capacity on intellectual property law and policy for indigenous lawyers and policy advisers. Subject areas include legal measures to protect traditional knowledge; traditional cultural expressions; and genetic resources. Qatar National Research Fund — Women in Science
The Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), in partnership with CRDF Global, welcomes applications from Qatari and Qatar-born female PhD students and MSc graduates for the Women in Science fellowship. The selected WIS fellows will spend four months at a U.S. university department under the direction of leading female researchers for work in one of the following four topics: ecology of infectious diseases; environmental science; cyber security; or materials science in energy. U.S. Department of State — Fulbright/Clinton Fellowship 2017-2018
The J. William Fulbright-Hillary Rodham Clinton (Fulbright-Clinton) Fellowship is a component of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The fellowships provide professional experience and research opportunities in public policy areas that include agriculture, energy, environment, and others. Host countries in 2017-2018 are the African Union, Burma (Myanmar), Chile, Cote d’Ivoire, Guatemala, Kosovo, Malawi, Nepal, Peru, Samoa, Timor-Leste, and Ukraine. Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) — RONPAKU Fellowships for PhD Students 2017
The RONPAKU fellowships are a program of the JSPS to support students from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa to pursue PhD degrees from Japanese universities. Each fellow submits a research dissertation co-supervised by an advisor in Japan and an advisor in the fellow’s home country. The fellows do not pursue doctoral courses in Japan (i.e., dissertation only). RONPAKU will award about 20 fellowships across all subject areas. The application deadline is 24 August 2016 for submissions to RONPAKU from Japanese universities; applicants need to send their documents to their prospective Japanese advisors in advance of this deadline.
