The Science of Risk Prize for 2016 invites research papers in two categories: natural hazards; and systems modelling. Among other types of risks, Lloyd’s is interested in the impact and management of climate change. The competition offers prizes of £5 thousand for the best research paper in each category. Birdfair/RSPB Research Fund for Endangered Birds — Applications 2016
The British Birdwatching Fair (Birdfair) and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) jointly provide small grants for research on birds listed by IUCN as “endangered,” “critically endangered,” or “data deficient.” Priority is for researchers working in their own countries, particularly in collaboration with BirdLife’s partners. The maximum grant is US$2 thousand, with preference for smaller requests. The closing date for applications is 31 October 2016. Link
World Intellectual Property Organization — Indigenous Fellowship Program 2017-2018
The World Intellectual Property Organization offers the WIPO Indigenous Fellowship to build stronger capacity in the field of indigenous intellectual property law, and to strengthen capacity on intellectual property law and policy for indigenous lawyers and policy advisers. Subject areas include legal measures to protect traditional knowledge; traditional cultural expressions; and genetic resources. Applications are invited from indigenous persons who have the necessary legal qualifications, or equivalent in

Santa Clara University — Global Social Benefit Incubator 2017
The GSBI at Santa Clara University (USA) is an annual program to strengthen social enterprises that use science and technology to address problems of people living in poverty. Past participants include many in water supply, energy, agriculture, and environment in developing countries. The GSBI Accelerator assists selected participants with business plans and other capacity building in support of investment. The GSBI Accelerator invites applications from social entrepreneurs around the world. The application deadline is 21 October 2016. Link
Netherlands Organisation for International Cooperation in Higher Education (NUFFIC) — Tailor-Made Training for Organizations
The Netherlands Fellowship Programs (NFP) include Tailor-made Training to build the capacity of an organization’s staff members. The programme is open to organisations in education, research, government, and civil society. Tailor-Made Training accepts proposals of organisations in NFP partner countries submitted jointly with a Dutch training provider. Application forms are available via the Netherlands embassies. Priorities include proposals focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa, and proposals focusing on food security. Funding is up to €75 thousand, with a co-funding requirement of at least 20%. Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund — Funding for Projects Led by Women
VGIF provides grants up to US$7,500 for projects that are led by women, and that help empower women and girls in grassroots communities around the globe. Most grants are for one year. Past projects include examples in farming, kitchen gardens, water supply, and other aspects of sustaining local livelihoods. The deadline for submitting letters of intent is 22 July 2016. Link
Israeli Agency for International Development Cooperation (MASHAV) — Professional Training in Israel 2016
MASHAV funds professional courses organized and hosted by Israeli institutions in subject areas that include agriculture, energy, natural resources, health, education, and social development. The remainder of the 2016 calendar includes a course on agri-green management (i.e., agri-environmental considerations related to climate change), with application deadline on 04 September 2016. A course on agri-business for rural women has an application deadline on 05 September 2016. A course on policies, strategies, and support systems for rural revitalization has a deadline on 09 September 2016. Applications are submitted through Israel’s diplomatic missions. For most courses, MASHAV covers course fees, accommodation, medical insurance, and other expenses in Israel (but not international airfare). Link
V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation — Climate Change and Environment
The V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation makes grants to address threats caused by climate change, unsustainable consumption, and loss of biodiversity. The Foundation works primarily in the USA on issues that are national and international. Funding that is external to the U.S. must be multinational and not focus on any specific country, region, or continent. The next deadline for letters of inquiry is 14 September 2016. Link
Government of Czech Republic — Scholarships for University Applicants from Developing Countries
The Czech Republic provides scholarships to support nationals from developing countries at public institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic. The fields of study include ecology, wildlife management, natural resources, forestry, and tropical agriculture (among others). Applications need to be submitted before 30 September of each year. LEDS Global Partnership — Fellowships on Low-Emission Development Strategies
The LEDS Global Partnership offers fellowships for individuals and teams of practitioners to be embedded with leading institutions to learn practical lessons that they can apply to low-emission development strategies and/or nationally determined contributions in their home countries. Fellowships will be awarded to individuals or groups of national or sub-national government officials who play a significant role within LEDS development or implementation. This pilot phase of the program will fund one fellow from each of Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The application deadline has been extended to 15 July 2016. Link
