EarthCorps — International Program 2017
EarthCorps invites applications from emerging environmental leaders around the world to participate in an environmental service program in the USA. Participants from the USA and other countries take part in field projects such as tree planting, trail construction, stream restoration, and removal of invasive plants. Projects are located in the state of Washington (i.e., not Washington, DC). Applicants should be 18-28 years of age, with a university degree in an environmental field (or equivalent work experience), and speak conversational English. International participants receive a living stipend, health insurance, and accommodations with host families. However, each participant is responsible for her/his travel to Seattle, Washington. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by 09 January 2017. Link
Biodiversity Indicators Partnership — Request for Proposals
The Convention on Biological Diversity adopted the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 as a framework for the biodiversity-related conventions and for the UN system as a whole. The Biodiversity Indicators Partnership (BIP) calls for proposals addressing the Aichi Biodiversity Targets 1, 3, and 15. To fill gaps in these targets, the BIP will fund proposals for indicator development up to a maximum of £75 thousand per proposal. The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2017. Link
Climate Strategies Accelerator — Breakthroughs to End the Age of Oil
The Climate Strategies Accelerator (CSA) aims to identify and support leaders with big ideas to address the complex problem of climate change. The 2017 theme is “end the age of oil.” CSA selects prototype projects and program leaders in progressive stages, beginning with a Breakthrough Lab of intensive networking and proposal development. At the end of the Breakthrough Lab, the CSA may choose to invest in one or more candidates, who would then become program leaders, receiving US$1-2 million per year for a three-year grant period to pursue their ideas. Swissuniversities Development and Cooperation Network — Consortia for North-South Education and Research
The swissuniversities Development and Cooperation Network (SUDAC) calls for various types of Swiss higher education institutions to collaborate with each other and with partners in the Global South to develop and organize Consortia for Education and Research (COFER). COFER will aim for stronger integration of research, education, and implementation through new collaborative networks oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Each COFER must address at least two SDGs; provide at least 50% matching funds; and provide funding for partners in the Global South. The application deadline is 31 March 2017. Link
French Institute for Development Research — Support for International Research Teams 2017
The IRD announces funding to support multidisciplinary international teams (laboratoires mixtes internationaux, LMI) to undertake research that corresponds to IRD’s thematic priorities. These priorities include agronomy and biodiversity; bio-invasions and climate change; sustainable urban development; the ocean-climate interface; micro-biomes in agro-ecosystems; management of water resources; coastal and marine management; and others. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency — Grants to U.S. Universities for Research on Global Sustainability 2017
The EPA’s 14th annual P3 Awards (People, Prosperity, and the Planet) will fund research projects in water and wastewater, energy, built environment, materials and chemicals, and reduced food waste. Grants are up to US$15 thousand for one year (Phase I). Winners in Phase I will be eligible to apply for larger grants to follow. The competition is open to U.S. institutions of higher education to support teams of undergraduate and/or graduate students. The application deadline is 03 February 2017. Link
Central European University — Visiting Fellowships 2017-2018
Central European University (CEU) announces two Visiting Fellowship Programs in academic year 2017-18. The Faculty Development Fellowship is available to applicants from selected academic institutions in Kyrgyzstan, Palestine, and Myanmar. The Research Excellence Fellowship is offered to academics employed in higher education institutions and/or academic research institutions in any country of the “Global South.” The subjects for fellows include environmental studies and energy studies — among many others. Eligible applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent, and should be nationals of eligible developing countries. Fellowships cover travel costs, accommodation, and a monthly stipend. 10YFP Trust Fund — Sustainable Food Systems
The 10YFP Sustainable Food Systems Program aims to accelerate the shift towards more sustainable food systems in developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The program focuses on awareness raising, capacity development, facilitating access to knowledge and information, and strengthening partnerships all along the food value chain. Preference is for projects that have complementary funding, and projects being implemented in multiple countries. Grants are US$50 thousand to US$80 thousand for Immediate Action Projects; grants are US$100 thousand to US$200 thousand for Strategic Impact Projects. Eligibility for funding extends to partner organizations in the SFS Program. The closing date for submitting application forms is 15 January 2017. Link
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Grants to Combat Wildlife Trafficking
The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) welcomes project proposals to combat wildlife trafficking. Priorities include strengthening CITES implementation in key regions and countries; fighting corruption and poor governance regarding wildlife protection; increasing cooperation among African and Asian countries involved in transnational wildlife crime; working for behavioral change in support of wildlife protection; and conservation of species endangered by illegal trade. Projects are up to US$100 thousand for one or two years, although higher amounts will be considered. Eligibility for funding extends worldwide to individuals, non-profit and for-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, and multi-national secretariats.
