The Yousef Jameel Scholarship Fund at Humboldt University annually awards five scholarships for doctoral studies in the natural sciences to applicants from Arabic countries. The program seeks applicants in the disciplines of sustainable desert agriculture; plant-based medicine; and renewable energy. The stipend awarded is €1340 per month, plus material expenses. Applicants should have good written and spoken English, as well as communications skills in German. Applications from qualified women are particularly encouraged. United Nations — Agri-Food Value Chains for Mountain Communities
The Mountain Innovation Program aims to improve the lives of mountain communities and protecting mountain environments around the world. The current opportunity calls for projects that focus on techniques to leverage resources and increase the resilience of mountain communities through the enhancement of agriculture-food value in Guatemala, Rwanda, Papua New Guinea, Lesotho, and Nepal. Only entities working with local civil society organizations and/or community-based organizations in priority countries are eligible to apply. Mekong Institute – Mekong Cooperation Fund
The Mekong-ROK Cooperation Fund seeks applications for the implementation of cooperation activities in Mekong countries (Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Laos). The Fund provides grants of up to US$300 thousand for regional projects. Eligible project areas include agriculture and rural development, and environment, among others. Applications are invited from government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and academic institutions. Development banks and individuals are not eligible. Dutch Research Council — Scientific Research Collaboration Climate Smart Agriculture
NWO (Netherlands) and the Department of Biotechnology (India) call for scientific collaboration between The Netherlands and India that focus on Climate Smart Agriculture. Research institutes and other collaborations of organizations (both public and private) can apply for funding of joint research projects. Projects should focus on interdisciplinary research in order to develop application-oriented solutions for adaptation of agriculture to climate change. SlovakAid supports small-scale projects in various sectors, including food and agriculture, water and sanitation, clean energy, and the sustainable use of natural resources in developing countries. Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture — PhD Research Scholarship
The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) offers scholarships for PhD studies in agriculture, natural resources, and related fields. Research funds do not to exceed US$4,500. SEARCA offers an optional 2-month internship. SEARCA prioritizes Southeast Asian nationals who are enrolled in PhD programs in a member university, however, the program is also open to applications who are regular staff members of government agencies or non-profit development-oriented institutions. European Commission — Supporting CSOs to achieve the SDGs
The European Commission seeks to support civil society organizations as actors of governance in order to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The EC will provide financial assistance to inequality initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. Each region has specifically defined program priorities, including income and wealth inequality, land rights, access to natural resources such as water for agriculture. Any requested contribution under this call for proposals must be €3.6 million. The Global Challenges Research Fund invites applications to grow research capability in the UK to meet the challenges faced by developing countries. Examples of thematic areas include sustainable agriculture; clean air, water, and sanitation; renewable energy and materials; addressing environmental shocks and long-term environmental changes; and others. Grantseekers may request up to £25 thousand in project support. Both UK and international research organisations (universities, public laboratories, or nonprofit organisations) can be research partners and receive funds. Waterloo Foundation — Small Grants
The Waterloo Foundations makes small grants to small UK charities which are working to deliver projects in developing countries. Current funding priorities are Nutrition, Education, WASH and Sexual and Reproductive Health. Organizations based in a developing countries can also apply for support but must provide a reference for their work in form of a UK referee. The majority of grants are £5-£10 thousand for one to two year projects.
