The CEPF seeks letters of inquiry for small grants (less than US$50 thousand) to conserve biodiversity in the Eastern Afromontane Hotspot. The conservation priorities are stated in the announcement for Strategic Directions 1, 2, and 3 in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Eligibility for funding extends to NGOs, community groups, universities, private enterprises, and other applicants from civil society. Government enterprises and institutions may be eligible if they can meet special criteria. All applicants are encouraged to discuss proposal ideas prior to submitting. The European Union seeks proposals for the program “CSO-RISE – Civil Society Organisations in Research and Innovation for Sustainable Development” to foster the initiatives of the civil society organisations in their capacities to address economic, social and climate-resilient issues through innovative interventions. The proposals presented should cover technologies, economic activities, policies and services in the theme sustainable agriculture. Grants will fall between €1.5 – 2.2 million. The Government of Canada seeks preliminary proposals (stage I) under the Innovation for Women’s Economic Empowerment in Ghana call. (Note: This may include one or more categories of the Terra Viva Grant Directory). Proposals must contribute to the achievement of enhanced economic empowerment, well-being and inclusive economic growth for women in Ghana. Successful pre-proposals will be invited to submit a full project (stage II) and be considered for funding, receiving between $5 million and $10 million over a period of five years. The 2018 Food Connection Challenge invites SMEs from the agri/food sector in Nigeria and Benin to submit their innovative ideas to reduce post-harvest losses. The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB) launches the Pitch AgriHack 2018. The theme for this year’s edition is “Women entrepreneurs innovate for agricultural transformation in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific”. The competition is open to both male and female founders and co-founders of e-agri startups offering digital services to the agricultural sector. Applicants must be aged between 18 to 35 years and need to be nationals and residents of African, Caribbean or Pacific countries. 50% of finalists will be women founders or co-founders of startups. Roth Family Foundation — Fellowship for Short Courses related to Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation
The Roth Family Foundation offers three full fellowships per year for IHE Delft Short Courses related to Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation, to female water professionals from Sub-Saharan Africa. The fellowship covers the tuition fee, study related costs, insurance and contributes towards the costs of living and travel. USAID accepts applications for the Accelerating Women Entrepreneurs prize. The prize provides acceleration services including investment readiness consulting, investor matchmaking support, and business analysis to women entrepreneurs. Projects may be focussing on various thematic areas around the main topic agriculture, including aquaculture/livestock, pest management, irrigation and water, and postharvest among others. UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education — Fellowship for Water Professionals
The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs is partnering with the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education to fund masters degrees and short courses at Delft University of Technology for water professionals from Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The 18 month MSc programmes include 6 months’ field based research, to be conducted preferably on specific problems in the home country of the participant.The project aims to strengthen the capacity of professionals and decision makers to improve water management in SIDS, and to better address challenges such as coping with climate change. Future Africa Institute — Early Career Fellowship
The University of Pretoria announces a new Early Career Fellowship that aims to develop research leadership for the African Bioeconomy. The program will require that at least 70% (8-9 months) of the academic year is spent at the Future Africa Campus of the University of Pretoria. Applications are welcome for such topic areas as technological and non-technological exploitation of natural resources, ecological issues and climate change, and others. Emerging research leaders in the natural and social sciences and humanities are encouraged to apply.
