Grants are awarded to help entrepreneurs explore new markets and research their technology’s impact on the environment and poverty reduction. The programme’s emphasis is on cleantech products, systems, processes, and services in the following focus areas: climate change adaptation/mitigation; ecosystem services; renewable energy; water and sanitation; and urban development. Eligibility extends to companies or organisations based in Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The U.S. Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) seeks proposals that benefit refugees and other vulnerable populations in Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Niger, and Senegal. Focus areas within the scope of the Terra Viva Grant Directory are water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and livelihoods, among many others. Proposals can be submitted by non-profit organisations. Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture — Agricultural Scholarships for Africans
The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) is partnering with the MasterCard Foundation to implement the programme “Transforming African Agricultural Universities to meaningfully contribute to Africa’s growth and development”. For the academic year 2018, 45 Bachelor and 15 Master scholarships are available of which 70% will be for Kenya and Uganda nationals. The aim is to transform African agricultural universities and their graduates to better respond to developmental challenges through enhanced application of science, technology, business and innovation for rural agricultural transformation. RUFORUM — Post-Doctoral Fellowships 2018
The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) invites applications from former RUFORUM-Carnegie supported doctoral alumni for a 2 year post-doctoral fellowships to be based at a university in Africa. Applications from candidates who have submitted their theses for external examination will also be considered. The maximum award for this call is US$60 thousand per fellowship. European Commission — Improved Regional Fisheries Governance in West Africa
The European Commission calls for projects that increase the sustainability of the use of marine resources in West Africa by enhancing scientific knowledge, and supporting the development and implementation of effective management/conservation measures. Canada’s IDRC calls for research projects with the potential to generate high impact and innovative results for improved food security in Africa. The research should focus on improved productivity and incomes for farmers; gender equity; nutrition and human health; and climate change and sustainable water management. Eligibility to participate extends to NGOs, universities, and government departments with legal corporate registration in Burundi; Ethiopia; Kenya; Malawi; Mozambique; Rwanda; Tanzania; Uganda; Zambia; and Zimbabwe. The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships enable successful applicants to benefit from the expertise provided by universities in low and middle-income countries around the Commonwealth. The program currently offers 13 masters-level scholarships at ACU member universities in 9 countries. Applicants are citizens of Commonwealth countries other than the host country. The University of Bonn (Germany) and the West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) call for participation and abstracts for the COAST workshop (studying changes of sea level and water storage for coastal regions in West-Africa, using satellite and terrestrial data sets) that will be held in Burkina Faso, 12-15 February 2018. Applications from West African doctoral and postdoctoral researchers with less than 10 years experience in academia are welcome. The program “Wildlife Without Borders” includes a regional component for Central Africa. Funding in 2018 will focus on projects that impact wildlife populations in the following countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and São Tomé and Príncipe.
