The Climate Justice Resilience Fund seeks grants applications for community-led, social justice approaches to climate change adaptation and resilience-building. Grants are made to women, youth, and indigenous peoples to create and share their own solutions for resilience. CJRF grants focus on four interrelated issues connected which climate change: (1) Water Access; (2) Food Security; (3) Sustainable Livelihoods; and (4) Migration and Relocation. The CJRF grantmaking strategic framework prioritizes multi-year grants and grants larger than US$100 thousand. Non-profit organizations from Alaska, Kenya, Tanzania, Bangladesh, and the India are invited to apply. The Svalbard Science Forum (SSF) promotes research activities in Svalbard and administrates funding programs to stimulate data collection and inter-disciplinary as well as international cooperation. Students and researchers can apply for arctic field grants and seed money for workshops and collaborative activities. Both Norwegian and foreign students and scientists are eligible to apply, the latter only if the project is done in close cooperation with a Norwegian institution. The deadline is 10 October 2018. The UK Government invests up to £10 million in technologies that will help countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia access secure, low cost and low carbon energy. (Note: £3 million of the funding is set aside for bioenergy projects.) International applicants must apply as part of a collaboration with a UK organisation. The KR Foundation makes grants for environmental communications and advocacy, with a special focus on reducing investment and consumption of fossil fuels. The Foundation aims to address root causes of climate change and environmental degradation, and safeguard the planetary boundaries. Grants are to charitable nonprofit organizations. The Wellcome Trust seeks applications from researchers who want to explore the links between human health and the changing climate. Specific research themes are (1) Developing tools to support research into climate change and health; (2) Assessing the health co-benefits of actions to mitigate climate change; and (3) Assessing the health impacts of actions to adapt to climate change. Funding of up to £500 thousand is available for three years of research. The awards are open to individuals or teams of up to ten members from anywhere in the world. The winner will receive €25 thousand to strengthen and scale up their business idea. Proposals are invited from companies and non-governmental organizations. The ICFJ accepts applications for the Global Climate Reporting Program. Participants will learn from global experts about how extreme weather and climate affect human health and safety and natural ecosystems, and produce stories on these critical topics. Participants will travel to San Francisco in September to attend the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit. Airfare, lodging and meals during the program will be covered by the organizers. The APEC Climate Center (APCC) accepts applications for a training program with the subject of user-oriented statistical downscaling of climate change scenarios for agriculture and water resources to be held in Korea (15-20 October 2018). The 1-week training program aims to provide information and technical support for better regional planning and reduction of economic losses caused by adverse climate conditions. Scientists and working level staff from national research institutes in agriculture and/or water-related fields in developing countries, preferably APEC economies, are invited to apply. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers Story Grants to support the production of in-depth stories on climate and environmental change in the Bay of Bengal region. Particular attention should be given to the adaptation needs, challenges, efforts and success stories of vulnerable and marginalized communities, women and youth.
