The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, U.S. State Department, announces the “Building Air Quality Management Capacity in Central Asia” program. The project targets government entities with the intend to strengthen regulatory and monitoring capacity of government actors and expand awareness of air quality issues in Central Asian countries. The program intends to provide US$296,296 in funding to be used for the production of educational materials, expert workshops, and the development of a monitoring and evaluation plan to be used by key agencies. Countries eligible for funding under this award include: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The Foundation “Future of the Carbon Market” (Stiftung Zukunft des Kohlenstoffmarktes) promotes a market-based approach at a program level to reduce carbon emissions in developing countries. The program approach relies on start-up finance generated by the sale of tradable emissions certificates, combined with national policies and incentives favorable to emissions reductions. The Foundation posts funding guidelines and application forms for programmatic Emission Reduction Initiative (Non-CDM) activities. The Thomson Reuters Foundation invites journalists and editors from Southeast Asia to participate in a three-day training program on climate change and energy transition. The Foundation will provide mentoring support and a number of small story grants to journalists and editors who completed the training. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers grants to journalists based in eastern India and coastal Bangladesh to report on critical issues related to climate change. ENJ seeks in-depth stories that focus on climate and environmental change, such as climate-induced migration, agricultural and water issues or food security in the Bay of Bengal region. EJN expects to award at least 10 grants averaging US$1,300 each. Early- or mid-career journalists from print, web, radio and television are eligible. EEP Africa invites innovative project developers to submit applications for early stage clean energy projects in active development phase in Southern and East Africa. Applicants can apply for grants between €200 thousand and €500 thousand (minimum required co-financing is 30%). Eligibility extends to companies, start-ups and social enterprises with early-stage projects from Botswana, Burundi, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The Efficiency for Access Coalition (EforA) seeks applications for the Efficiency for Access Research and Development Fund. The Coalition seeks projects that develop enabling technologies or products for off-grid and weak grid areas. Start-ups and micro-sized organizations can apply for grants of between £50 thousand and £300 thousand to be used for feasibility studies, industrial research, or experimental development. The applicant must be a legally registered business, academic organisation, non-profit, or research and technology organization. There are no geographical restrictions. Climate Tracker seeks applicants for a 8-week-long investigative reporting scholarship program. Fellows will receive training on climate journalism and have the chance to refine their journalism skills. Six African journalists will be selected to cover the Sustainable Energy for All Forum in Rwanda (May 2020). Applicants have to write and publish a story focusing on energy access, clean cooking, energy transition, or climate change in order to apply. Articles have to be submitted by 18 March 2020. USAID requests solutions that advance the development of a resilient alternative energy market. Concept notes should propose activities valued at no less than US$2 million. Together with Climate Visuals, Getty Images launches the Climate Visuals Grants which aim to support the creation of compelling and emotionally engaging imagery that explores the complex and layered climate crisis. Photojournalists from around the world are invited to submit projects with a compelling visual narrative based primarily on documentary still images.
