The Violet Jabara Trust supports organizations working in the developing countries of the Middle East to promote sustainable economic development, as well as reproductive health and women’s welfare. The Trust’s thematic interests include environmental issues, among others. Priority countries are Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Palestine (Occupied Territories), Yemen, Egypt and North Africa. Countries further afield (such as the Gulf countries, Sudan, or Afghanistan) may be considered, but will not be given priority. The Lemelson Foundation supports programs to empower local inventors and entrepreneurs in India and East Africa to address social and economic challenges to improve the lives of the poor. Supported solutions include access to clean water and sanitation, agricultural productivity, and access to clean and affordable energy. The Foundation funds very few unsolicited applications. In its theme Equitable Development, the Ford Foundation makes grants to challenge inequality. The sub-theme “Natural Resources and Climate Change” seeks to ensure that indigenous and other communities have secure access to and control over natural resources, and can benefit from them fully. Nuffic, a Dutch non-profit organization for internationalization in education, offers scholarships for training courses in The Netherlands. Subject areas include climate adaptation, water governance, and many others. The Nuffic Scholarships at The Hague Academy (OKP, MSP and StuNed) will cover the tuition fee, flights, insurance, accommodation and a small daily allowance. Potentially interested individuals review the courses and dates offered by the participating Dutch higher education institutions, and information about how to apply. Fondation Chanel supports non-profit organizations, community groups, social enterprises, and women’s associations. Projects eligible for support should focus on women’s empowerment, including economic resources and entrepreneurship, among other themes. Projects are generally 2-3 years in duration. The Foundation currently supports projects in 35 countries from all around the world. Fondation Chanel accepts unsolicited requests for funding through a letter of inquiry. The ASEAN Women Impact Social Entrepreneurship (WISE) Fellowship supports changemakers and social enterprises with focus on women and indigenous communities. Angels of Impact seeks medium-sized, women or indigenous-led, community-based social enterprises that work to end poverty via the creative economy sector. Selected fellows have access to capacity-building workshops, market access and funding opportunities. Two businesses from each Southeast Asian country (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) will be selected for the fellowship. The Women’s Empowerment for Inclusive Growth (WING) program supports women-led small businesses and social enterprises in Bangladesh who are working on real economic empowerment of women and girls. Interested enterprises are invited to submit their gender-responsive business proposal application for funding. WING provides technical assistance and financial support such as development grants, credit enhancements, and guarantees. The deadline for submission of investment proposals is 31 January 2021. The Small Charities Challenge Fund (SCCF) supports UK-based grassroots organizations to help priority countries to enhance their capacity and efforts to help the poor, vulnerable and most marginalized. UK Aid Direct operates in the lowest 50 countries in the Human Development Index and in countries considered to be of high or moderate fragility. Thematic areas include agriculture, climate change, environment, water resources and others. Grants of up to £50 thousand will be available for projects of up to 2 years.
