The BirdsCaribbean Hurricane Relief Fund accepts applications for birds and habitat recovery. The fund aims to advance the recovery and ongoing conservation of birds and their habitats on islands affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria and assist conservationists working on these islands regain capacity lost in the hurricane and necessary to undertake recovery and conservation projects. The Hurricane Relief Fund is positioned to support small projects with up to US$5 thousand. Larger grants of up to US$10 thousand may be considered in exceptional cases. Eligible islands are Dominica, Barbuda, Anguilla, St. Eustatius, St. Barts, St. Kitts, Saba, St Martin/Sint Maarten, British and US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Cuba. The CEPF invites applications from civil society organizations to submit proposals to conduct an evaluation of lessons learned in relation to the Caribbean Islands Regional Implementation Team (RIT). The Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF) invites applications for its annual international training course, “Economic Tools for Conservation”, to be held at the University of California Berkeley in July 2018. The course is aimed at managers of conservation programs and protected areas; directors of NGOs; and representatives of government agencies. Applicants from disciplines such as biology, forestry, law, anthropology, and economics are encouraged to apply. Accepted applicants are responsible for seeking their own funding. Colorado State University, in collaboration with partner organizations in the USA, announces its annual one-month course in protected areas management to be held July-August 2018 in the Western USA. Participants are invited from Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries, with emphasis on participants from Latin America. The course will be given in Spanish. The Riverbanks Zoo and Garden (USA) makes grants for field conservation; habitat management; conservation education; ex situ captive breeding; animal health and welfare; and other themes in wildlife research and conservation. The ATBC makes the Navjot Sodhi Conservation Research Award each year to a student from a developing country. Eligibility extends to ATBC student members who are nationals of tropical developing countries, and who are conducting research that directly contributes to biodiversity conservation within the tropics. All individuals who have been students within the previous 12 months can apply. The award is up to US$500. The deadline for submitting nominations and self-nominations is 31 December. EarthCorps invites applications from emerging environmental leaders around the world to participate in an environmental service program in the USA. Participants from the USA and other countries take part in field projects such as tree planting, trail construction, stream restoration, and removal of invasive plants. The international Program is a 6-month learning experience for non-U.S. citizens, which takes place in Seattle, Washington, USA. Applicants should be 18-28 years of age, with a university degree in an environmental field (or equivalent work experience), and speak conversational English. International participants receive a living stipend, health insurance, and accommodations with host families. However, each participant is responsible for her/his travel to Seattle, Washington. The OBC Conservation Fund makes grants for bird conservation in Asia. Grant-making priorities are projects that benefit globally threatened bird species; that conserve threatened bird habitats; and that are led by Asian residents. Small Conservation Awards are up to £1,500 for projects of 12-18 months, with applications before 31 March of each year. WWF supports professional training and formal studies of individuals working in disciplines directly relevant to nature conservation. Eligibility extends to mid-career nationals from Africa; Asia and Pacific; Latin America and Caribbean; Eastern Europe; and the Middle East.
