Pitch AgriHack is a digital agriculture competition focused on accelerating entrepreneurial growth in the agriculture sector in Africa. The competition invites African businesses to pitch their approach to driving technological innovation in the agriculture sector. The competition provides cash prizes totaling US$45 thousand. A fourth invite-only category will award up to US$1.5 million in grants to scalable ventures that are already generating measurable impact for Africa’s smallholder farmers. The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) offers a limited number of grants of up to €5 thousand for short scientific visits to early-career scientists who reside in an economically disadvantaged country to visit a forest research organization overseas. The duration of the scientific visit should be agreed between the applicant and host organization and last approximately three months. The funding should cover travel and subsistence costs for the period of the grant. The application deadline is 31 July 2023. Details

The Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge seeks game-changing innovations that will help transform the food system to be more sustainable and empower consumers to make choices benefitting both personal and planetary health. The Challenge will award up to eight US$25 thousand grants, up to three US$100 thousand grants and up to two US$250 thousand grand prizes. Nonprofits or academic or research institutions located in any country and early-stage U.S. based for-profit companies are eligible to apply. Individuals are not eligible to apply. The U.S. Government seeks to support projects that secure economic security of women in agriculture in Tunisia. Funds are available to support projects that empower previously marginalized women working in agricultural cooperatives to use innovative technical and entrepreneurial approaches to mitigate the impacts of climate change, increase profitability, and protect against food insecurity. The estimated award is US$1.5 million per year over the course of 3 years. Eligible applicants include U.S. or foreign non-profit organizations; institutions of higher education; international organizations; and small businesses. The U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF) invites applications from registered African agricultural cooperatives and enterprises for grant financing. Grants will support solutions that increase revenues, create jobs, improve farmer incomes, and achieve sustainable market-based growth. USADF accepts applications in Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cote d’Ivoire, DRC, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Applicants can request no more than US$250 thousand. India’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) offers postdoctoral fellowships to young scientists from developing countries (other than India) to pursue postdoctoral research at CSIR’s laboratories and institutes. The duration of the fellowships is six to twelve months. Subject areas range across the physical and natural sciences, including agricultural sciences. The Thomson Reuters Foundation invites journalists from Latin America to register for a workshop on rural poverty and agriculture. The program will build the capacity of journalists to cover food security, food production, markets and climate issues. Applicants must be full-time journalists or regular contributors working for media organizations based in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador or Peru. The Forrest Research Foundation at the University of Western Australia offers research fellowships to attract early-career post-doctoral researchers. The fellowship comprises a salary, an accommodation allowance, and a one-off research and travel allowance. The duration of the Fellowship is up to three years on a full time basis. The United States Agency for International Development in Vietnam (USAID) seeks applications from qualified entities to implement the USAID Climate Resilient Agriculture in the Mekong Delta. The purpose of the program is to advance low-emissions, climate-resilient agricultural livelihoods combined with biodiversity conservation to support carbon sequestration, healthy ecosystems, and resilience of vulnerable communities. Sustainable Ocean Alliance and Environmental Defense Fund offers a Fellowship to early-career entrepreneurs and organizations working on projects anywhere in the world that benefit fisheries and promote community resilience to climate change. Fellows receive grant funding and special access to mentorship and online courses to develop new leadership and technical skills.
