Association of Avian Veterinarians — Support Of Avian Research (SOAR)

The Association of Avian Veterinarians seeks research proposals addressing significant areas of need for research in avian species (atherosclerosis and cardiac disease; avian bornavirus, feather-damaging behavior). Preference will be given to grant submissions relating to avian species traditionally kept as companions, however proposals relating to zoological species will also be considered. European Union — Developing Business Opportunities for African Countries

ARCHIPELAGO is a 4-year European program with the aim to support the growth of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Africa. The program supports partnership projects in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, and Senegal. Each selected project will receive a grant of between €400 thousand and €500 thousand. Each project proposal must be submitted by a consortium consisting of at least two partners (one from Africa and one from the EU). Applications may be submitted by business support organisations (such as chambers and business associations), training centres or other entities which specialize in activities related to vocational training and/or business development services. European Commission — Climate Change Champions

The European Commission seeks to support South African Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the fight against climate change. Grants are intended for projects focusing on youth participation, gender equality, and capacity building activities for climate change mitigation and adaptation actions. Grants under this call must fall between the minimum of €300 thousand and the maximum of €700 thousand. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations legally registered in South Africa. AEON Environmental Foundation — MIDORI Prize for Biodiversity 2020

The MIDORI Prize is a biennial international prize to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity at global, regional, or local levels. In principle, the MIDORI Prize is awarded to three individuals. Each prize winner is awarded US$100 thousand. The deadline for nominations is 30 March 2020. Find nomination guidelines

United Nations University — Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships 2020

The United Nations University offers postdoctoral fellowships to young scholars and policymakers, especially from the developing world. The fellowship program is with the UNU’s Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). The research themes include water and urban development; governance for sustainable development; and others. Fellowships are awarded for a period of 24 months. Eisenhower Fellowships — Women’s Leadership Program

Eisenhower Fellowships’ Women’s Leadership Program seeks talented women leaders with a proven track record of achievement. The program will take place in the USA during seven weeks in October-November 2020. Fellows receive an intensive and individually-designed program in their professional field. Applications are invited from individuals ages 32-45 from a wide range of professions in Africa. The application deadline is 24 February 2020. Details here

Agropolis Foundation — Agriculture-based Solutions

The Agropolis Foundation seeks to promote the agro-ecological transition by promoting practices and solutions which conserve natural renewable resources. Therefore, the Foundation invites research and project proposals along three transversal axes: Agriculture and climate change: adaptation and mitigation (Axis 1); Conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity (Axis 2); Responsible production and consumption (Axis 3). The call will finance two types of projects. Type 1 projects may request between €150 thousand and €250 thousand, Type 2 projects may request between €20 thousand and €25 thousand. Blue Action Fund — Adaptation to Climate Change in the Western Indian Ocean

The Blue Action Fund announces a call for grant proposals focusing on ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) to climate change in the Western Indian Ocean. Grants are made to NGOs with projects that focus on protecting Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and supporting sustainable livelihoods in coastal communities. The Fund aims to support projects protecting and restoring adaptation-relevant coastal ecosystems to reduce climate change-related risks for vulnerable coastal communities. The fund will allocate €2-5 million per project. Applicants are expected to provide substantial co-funding for the project. NGOs with projects which are situated in Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, and Tanzania are eligible to apply. The application deadline is 24 May 2020. Find the call
