Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation — Young People for Development

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) seek innovative projects run by young people in the 16–35 age group which aim to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged communities in developing countries. The ‘Together we’re better’ competition sponsors current and planned initiatives run by young people that help advance global sustainable development and fight poverty. Prizes in five categories range from CHF 4 to 10 thousand. ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences — Mobility Grants with South Asia and Iran 2019

Mobility grants encourage early-career Swiss researchers who seek the possibility to gain experience in international research and development projects in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan or Sri Lanka. Applicants from South Asia or Iran who wish to visit Switzerland for research purposes need to be scientists with a government accredited university or public research institute. For applicants from South Asia or Iran the fund may cover living allowances, public transport within Switzerland and a contribution towards research and local conference costs (up to CHF 2,500 per month during maximum 3 months). Funds will be disburses to the Swiss sending and/or host institute only, therefore international applicants should seek a partnership with ZHAW. European Commission — Disaster Prevention and Preparedness

The European Commission seeks to identify and finance projects aimed at strengthening cooperation within Europe on disaster prevention and preparedness. Prevention projects may be any actions aimed at reducing risks or mitigating adverse consequences of disasters for people, the environment and property, including cultural heritage. Preparedness projects focus on strengthening preparedness for responding to emergencies, environment and marine pollution. The EU co-funding rate amounts to 85 % of total eligible costs, with a maximum EU contribution of EUR 1 million for grants awarded under the internal budget (EU countries) and EUR 400 thousand for grants awarded under the external budget (neighboring countries). Eligibility extends to private entities, public entities, and international organisations established in the European Union or Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia. European Commission — Ship Emission Control Scenarios

The European Commission seeks project proposals to better understand the comprehensive environmental impacts from the wide scale adoption of a range of potential emission reduction solutions together with any secondary effects on the on the marine environment. The aim of this call is to identify emission reduction scenarios and activities that will provide comprehensive information concerning the predicted dispersion of discharges from shipping and any long term environmental impact. Proposals may requests a contribution of up to €8 million. International cooperations and legal entities established in EU Member States, Overseas Countries and Territories and Horizon 2020 associated countries (as detailed in the call) are eligible to apply under this call. European Commission — Reducing Aviation Impact on Climate Change

The European Commission seeks new technologies that can minimize the impact of aviation operations on climate change. The projects under this call are expected to formulate specific recommendations for stakeholders on flight planning and on the use of alternative fuels. Proposals may requests a contribution of between €2 million and €3 million. Volkswagen Foundation — Funding for Bold Research Ideas

Through its program ‘Experiment!’ the Volkswagen Foundation seeks fundamentally new research topics from all fields of science and engineering as well as in the life sciences. Applicants from all around the world who want to put a potentially transformative and risky research idea to the test are invited to apply. ygap — Support for Female Entrepreneurs in Africa

The yher accelerator provides support to female entrepreneurs and female-led impact ventures across Africa. The aim of the program is to provide solutions to poverty by empowering women. The program provides access to mentors, training and a week-long intensive training workshop. Winners of the peer review will receive US$25 thousand in funding and the chance to apply for an additional AU$10 thousand to AU$50 thousand to help scale their venture.
