Research Environment Links grants provide financial support for capacity strengthening and collaboration activities to develop and sustain medium- to long-term relationships in the UK and partner countries. The British Council invites proposals for research collaboration and partnerships between universities and research institutes in Egypt, Malaysia, Morocco, Thailand or Turkey. Each proposal must have one Lead Applicant from the partner country and one Lead Applicant from the UK. Research Links funds any discipline or cross-discipline for up to £50 thousand. UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Partnerships with China
The BBSRC Partnering Awards aim to set up partnership links between UK and overseas laboratories, promote the exchange of scientists, particularly early career scientists, and to promote access to facilities. Funding of up to £30 thousand is available for a period of up to four years for partnerships with Chinese bioscience laboratories. International partnerships focusing on the net zero carbon emissions target, through a sustainable, resilient and bio-diverse agri-food system are especially welcome. Sustainable Mekong Research Network — Rapid Response Grants
The Sustainable Mekong Research Network (SUMERNET) seeks to reduce water insecurity for the poor, marginalized and socially vulnerable groups in the Mekong Region. SUMERNET will provide up to two grants to collaborative research projects that focus on water access; governance and management of water-related disaster risks; and transboundary interactions with water systems. The proposed project must cover the whole Mekong region or at least two countries in the study area. Funding support will not exceed US$ 45 thousand per research project to be completed within 6-12 months. The Lead Applicant must be a formal SUMERNET network member. African Union — Agriculture Scientific Exchanges Program
The African Union Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Policy Framework aims to facilitate harmonization of AU Member States’ SPS policy priorities of SPS systems in Africa. The Scientific Exchanges Program (SEP) supports USDA’s agricultural research goals of promoting collaborative programs among agricultural professionals of the African Union and agricultural professionals of the United States. The research areas are aligned within the three overarching areas of SPS including: food safety, animal health, and plant health. The fellowship will last 12 weeks. CMCC Foundation — Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship 2022
The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship seeks proposals from researchers with experience in the fields of social sciences and humanities but with interest in interfacing with earth system science. The aim is to overcome the disciplinary boundaries between earth science, and in particular climate science, and social/human sciences. European Fellowships support experienced researchers for a full time period between 12 and 24 months. Global Water Partnership-Caribbean — Water Resource Projects in the Caribbean
The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean invites project proposals for the implementation of short-term small-scale Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and Integrated Water Resources and Wastewater Management (IWWM) projects in the Caribbean. Projects based on hydro-geological mapping, capacity building, and feasibility assessments must have a total cost between €1,000 and €5,000. Projects for the implementation of innovative decentralized, rural community-based interventions for wastewater management must have a total cost of no more than US$25 thousand. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Protecting Biodiversity of the East Melanesian Islands
The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) invites applications for small grants (up to US$20 thousand) in support of biodiversity conservation in the East Melanesian Islands. Eligibility for funding extends to community groups and associations, NGOs, private enterprises, universities, research institutes, and other civil society organizations. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency — Grants to U.S. University Students for Research on Global Sustainability 2022
The P3 Awards (People, Prosperity, and the Planet) fund research projects in air quality, water resources, health, and chemical safety. Grants are up to US$25 thousand for one year (Phase I); winners in Phase I will be eligible to apply for larger grants to follow. The competition is open to U.S. institutions of higher education to support teams of undergraduate and/or graduate students. Collaboration and partnerships with colleges and universities outside the USA are permitted (up to 40% of the grant can be contracted to an international partner), but only U.S. institutions are eligible to apply. European Commission — Climate Research Infrastructures
European Commission seeks applications to strengthen the Bilateral Cooperation on Research Infrastructures with Africa to improve the knowledge base on climate change in Africa. Proposed projects are expected to contribute to enhanced research capacities in Africa for climate change observation. Grant amounts are equal to or greater than €500 thousand. UK National Research Foundation — Research Grants, Fellowships, and Scholarships
The UK National Research Foundation (NRF) makes research grants and scholarships to students worldwide (but mainly South African citizens) to pursue studies in all areas of Science, Engineering, Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities. The allocation of funds is demand-driven. There is no maximum or minimum proposal request. The NRF makes one call for proposals starting in February of each year. Please note that institutions set their own much earlier internal closing dates for applications, therefore, applicants must check the deadlines of each individual program very carefully.
