São Paulo Research Foundation — International Research Collaboration 3/2019

The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) offers seed funding to support the exchange of researchers under the program “São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration” (SPRINT). The 3/2019 call seeks collaborations with selected partner research organizations in Austria, UK, Canada, Colombia, Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Sweden, and United States. The fields of joint research interest include environment, energy, and others — varying with each partnership. FAPESP also considers proposals from institutions that do not currently have an agreement with FAPESP if these institutions can present matching funds. The deadline for proposals is 28 October 2019. MAN Truck & Bus AG — Support for Social Ventures

The MAN Impact Accelerator seeks social entrepreneurs from Europe, South Africa, and Brazil to tackle social and environmental challenges through innovative solutions in the transport and logistics industry. Social businesses and startups in the key areas agriculture, data analytics (including environmental data), sensors, among others, are invited to apply. The program provides indirect grants and support of up to US$50 thousand (no equity or cash) for each startup. European Commission — Sustainable Energy Policy in the Marshall Islands

The objective of this call for proposals is to support the implementation of a sustainable energy policy. Proposals should support atoll local governments and community groups to improve their energy management, which includes investment plans for renewable energy. Grants under this call range from €95 thousand to €220 thousand. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. U.S. Department of State — Global Innovation through Science and Technology

The U.S. Department of State announces the notice of funding opportunity for the Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) initiative. GIST supports projects that strengthen young innovators and entrepreneurs in low and middle income countries by connecting them with American businesses and experts. Proposed projects must address in-country training activities and pitch competitions; interactive online activities; early-stage investment networks; and website maintenance. Funding of US$1 million will be made available. Eligibility is limited to U.S. non-profit organizations and educational institutions. Foreign organizations will not be considered for this competition. The application deadline is 30 August 2019. Link

Katapult Ocean — Startup Investment for Tech Innovations

Katapult Ocean invests in tech companies with positive impact on the ocean. The accelerator program provides investments and mentorship for ocean technology startups from all around the world. The sectors covered by the program include ocean health, fisheries, and energy, among others. Startups will receive a US$150 thousand investment in their company in exchange for 8% equity. There is a US$50 thousand program fee that will be deducted from the investment. Applications are due by 31 August 2019. Find the application process

BBSRC and NERC — Sustainable Agriculture and Aquaculture

BBSRC and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) announce a joint call to address challenges related to the sustainable enhancement of agriculture (including crops and livestock) and aquaculture (including finfish and shellfish) in low- and middle-income countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Southern Asia and South-Eastern Asia regions. BBSRC and NERC have allocated a maximum of up to £3.4 million, to fund multidisciplinary research projects of up to 24 months in duration. Proposals must be led by a principal investigator in the UK. Government of India — India-Czech Bilateral Scientific and Technological Cooperation

The Department of Science & Technology (DST) and the and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Czech invite joint proposals under the India-Czech Scientific and Technological Cooperation Programme. Relevant priority areas under this call are (1) natural sciences and biotechnology; and (2) research of climate change, environment and energy; among others. The program will consider a realistic budget for manpower, consumables, and travel expenses (for exchange visits). The duration of each project should be three years. Government of India — Indo-Poland Joint Research Programme

The Department of Science & Technology (DST) and the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, invite proposals for joint research projects in the following scientific areas: i) Natural Sciences; ii) Engineering and Technology; iii) Medical and Health Sciences; iv) Agricultural Sciences. The fund will cover research expenses, exchange of visits for research projects, international air travel, and the cost of furnished accommodation for approved research visits. British Council — Small Grants for Research Collaboration with South Asia

The British Council Small-Scale Research Project Scheme provides funding (up to £5 thousand) for early-career researchers in the UK and countries in South Asia. The funding is intended for collaborative research projects in the theme water (e.g. water resource management, water health and sanitation, water cooperation and diplomacy), among others. Partnerships must be formed between a UK university/research institute and a university/research institute in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka. European Bank for Reconstruction and Development — Central European Initiative, Know-How Exchange 2019

The Know-how Exchange Program co-finances the transfer of know-how and best practices from EU to non-EU member countries of the Central European Initiative (CEI). Thematic areas in the current call by KEP-Italy include energy, environment, and agriculture and rural development (among others). Proposals are submitted by organizations in CEI member states which are also member states of the European Union for knowledge transfers to non-EU member states of the CEI. The non-EU members of the CEI are Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Ukraine. The maximum grant is €40 thousand.
