UK Research and Innovation — Sustainable Energy and International Development: Beyond Technology

The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), ESRC, NERC and Innovate UK invite applications for the  ‘UKRI-GCRF Sustainable Energy and International Development: Beyond Technology’ call. The call aims to support cutting-edge research and innovation which addresses the problems faced by developing countries. Applicants from all disciplines are welcome to apply. Candidates must be from a UK based organisation, however, the call also funds international co-investigators. There will be four proposals funded of up to £1.5 million per grant. International Fund for Agricultural Development — Reporting Rural Poverty and Agricultural Development

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the specialised UN agency, funds journalists from around Africa to attend the workshop ‘Reporting Rural Poverty and Agricultural Development’. The programme aim is to enable journalists to tell the story of rural development.  Participants will have the opportunity to attend the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) in Kigali in September 2019. Eligibility extends to full-time journalists from across Africa. Bursaries include air travel expenses (economy class), accommodation, local transfers and meals. U.S. Mission to Benin — Funding for Community Organizations

The U.S. Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund (SSH) is aimed at assisting Beninese community groups to develop lasting, self-sustaining projects with focus on development concerns, including sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and access to clean water and sanitation. Small grants of up to US$10 thousand are made to local community-based groups or organizations. The deadline to submit proposals is 01 July 2019. Link

National Geographic Society — Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals for its program “Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution” from all around the world. The aim is to explore solutions to reduce marine plastic pollution (including behavior change). Projects may be focused around conservation, education, research, storytelling, or technology. Geographic priorities include known hot spots that contribute most to the ocean plastic pollution problem. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents or citizens of the country of fieldwork as well as to projects with strong local capacity development components. National Geographic Society — Alpine Climate Change

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals for its program “Extreme Environments: Alpine Climate Change”. Through this RFP, NatGeo seeks to advance understanding of environmental and societal changes measured in high alpine regions. Projects may be focused around measuring the changing high-elevation environmental conditions, boosting the resilience of vulnerable communities, or climate change storytelling. Preference will be given to to projects led by researchers, conservationists, or storytellers from the greater Hindu-Kush Himalaya mountain system; the Peruvian, Chilean, and Argentinian Andes; and the mountainous regions of British Columbia. The National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world that will engage students and other citizen scientists in activities to address real world problems and lead to actions in science and conservation. Applicants should design and/or implement tools that support citizen science work, particularly data collection or data analysis. Applicants may request up to US$30 thousand. National Geographic Society — Middle School Planetary Stewards

The National Geographic Society seeks middle school students and educators in the United States, Mexico, and Canada to submit proposals for creative projects that address one of the focus areas of Human Journey, Wildlife, or Changing Planet. Projects should move students from engagement to inspiration to action and increase students’ appreciation of the natural world, exhibiting increased cultural empathy and understanding. World Academy of Sciences — Postdoctoral Fellowships in Malaysia

TWAS offers postdoc fellowships to young scientists from developing countries (other than Malaysia) who wish to pursue advanced research in the natural sciences at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang, Malaysia. The duration of the fellowships is 12 months to 3 years. Subject areas range across the physical and natural sciences, including agricultural sciences. TWAS-USM will provide a monthly stipend to cover living costs, food, and health insurance. The application deadline is 15 July 2019. Find the program
