Visionaria Network welcomes applications for support from the Empowered Entrepreneur Training Fund (EETF). EETF partially subsidizes training to sell cookstoves and other energy products in East Africa. The EETF will train entrepreneurs and sales agents – particularly women – who sell or contribute to the value chain of improved cookstoves. The EETF will cover the costs up to US$5 thousand of certified trainers to lead the training, and 50% of the logistical costs of the training. The application deadline is 12 October 2017. Connect4Climate — Climate Communications Campaign
In collaboration with partner organizations, the World Bank Group’s program Connect for Climate is sponsoring the #Uniting4Climate communications campaign. In the lead up and during COP 23, partners in the campaign will share messages, host events, and showcase climate solutions under the #Uniting4Climate hashtag. The campaign especially invites proposals for a virtual reality (VR) production in the form of a short description and short sample video that uses VR to illustrate and explain climate solutions and action. The winner or winners will be presented in November at the COP23 in Bonn, and they will be eligible for other publicity and possible prizes. The deadline for entries is 15 October 2017. Read more

The British Birdwatching Fair (Birdfair) and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) jointly provide small grants for research on birds listed by IUCN as endangered, critically endangered, or data deficient. The International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA) is offering six professional development and research grants for 2018-2019 on the role of scientific evidence and advice in support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Grants of up to to €15 thousand per project will support early-to-mid career researchers or policy practitioners on this theme in eligible low- and middle-income countries. Applicants must hold a PhD at time of application, or have at least five years full-time equivalent experience in research or as a public policy professional (e.g. advice, analysis, implementation, evaluation). PEER invites scientists in developing countries to work with U.S. collaborators in research and capacity building on priority topics that include environmental contaminants, agricultural productivity and food security, biodiversity conservation, water security, low-carbon development, fisheries assessments, and others. The priorities are different for each PEER focus area (i.e., varying by regions and countries). Applicants must be based at academic institutions, non-profit organizations, or government-managed research laboratories, centers, or institutes in the eligible countries.
