Institute of International Education — Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowships

The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program offers short-term fellowships to African-born academics at universities in the USA and Canada to collaborate with African universities in research, curriculum co-development, and/or graduate student training. Project requests to host scholars are submitted by universities and other higher education institutions in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. Past scholars in the program have included several in agriculture, environment, and related disciplines. Scholar applications must be submitted before 18 September 2024. Link

Harvard Forest — Fellowship in Forest Research

The Charles Bullard Fellowship in Forest Research supports advanced research and study by individuals. The fellowships are generally awarded to individuals in mid-career from all around the world who have established themselves in academia, public service, or the private sector. Research areas include, for example, forest ecology, tree physiology, forest soils, forest resource management, conservation and biodiversity issues, forest land planning, and the arts. The Bullard Fellowship is a residential program and Fellows are expected to spend a substantial portion at either Harvard Forest in Petersham (USA) or at Harvard University in Cambridge (USA). The fellowships carry stipends of up to US$60 thousand, depending on the duration of each fellowship. International researchers receive additional support for the visa process and logistics. Swiss National Science Foundation — Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowships

SNSF Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to applicants of any nationality with destination Switzerland who intend to apply for a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions individual postdoctoral fellowship. This funding scheme will offer applicants with a PhD a position at a non-commercial research institution in Switzerland for 12-24 months. The grant includes a salary with social security contributions, financial contributions to research, and conference costs. The scheme is open to all research disciplines and topics. Inter-American Foundation — Research Fellowship Program

The Inter-American Foundation (IAF) welcomes applicants for its new Research Fellowship Program to advance rigorous field-based research on actionable questions about community-led development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Each fellowship includes a stipend of US$20 thousand to support an individual researcher working for twelve months. Applicants must be a citizens of one of the countries in which the IAF works or the United States. Applications are due on 03 December 2024. Research Fellowship Program

Wilson Center — International Fellowship Program

The Woodrow Wilson Center offers a 9-month residential fellowship to scholars, practitioners, journalists, and public intellectuals. Fellows conduct research in their areas of interest while interacting with policymakers in Washington and Wilson Center staff and other scholars in residence. The Center accepts proposals that address key challenges confronting the United States and the world. The Center offers a stipend of US$90 thousand. Fellows are responsible for their own health insurance and travel expenses. The application deadline is 01 October 2024. Link to guidelines 

Smithsonian Institution — Fellowship Program 2025

The Smithsonian Institution annually awards fellowships for independent study or research at one or more of the Smithsonian’s 19 units and research centers, including the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). The awards include graduate student fellowships; predoctoral fellowships; postdoctoral fellowships; and senior fellowships. Stipends and allowances vary from US$8 thousand for two weeks to up to US$55 thousand per year, depending on the applicant’s experience. The fellowship program is open to qualified applicants worldwide. Applicants contact Smithsonian’s staff members (find the link in the announcement) to identify potential advisors, and to determine the feasibility of their proposed research. Watson Institute — Western Union Foundation Fellowship

The Western Union Foundation Fellowship is for young entrepreneurs and community leaders who are from highly marginalized, refugee, and forcibly displaced communities around the globe. The 16-week-long program is designed to equip entrepreneurs with the skills and experience to transform their communities. US$25 thousand in seed funding will be distributed among the Fellows. The Watson Institute accepts applicants from the following countries: Mexico, Kenya, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, France, Germany, India, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, and Afghanistan. Earth Journalism Network — Fellowships for Journalists

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) announces a new fellowship for journalists interested in attending and reporting from the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (October/November 2024). Fellows will travel to Cali to attend the entire duration of the UN biodiversity negotiations and receive non-refundable economy-class airfare, accommodation, meals, travel medical insurance, and ground transportation costs related to fellowship participation. To be eligible for the fellowship, the applicant must be a professional journalist from an established media house and reporting from a low- or middle-income country. Research Institute for Sustainability — Fellow Program

The Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS) invites applications for the RIFS Fellow Program. The Institute particularly welcomes proposals that envisage active collaboration with RIFS researchers and offers Fellows the opportunity to develop their ideas in an international community of eminent researchers, not only within the institute but also in the wider Potsdam-Berlin area. Applicants can come from a wide range of sectors such as science, public administration, the private sector, civil society, media, and the arts. Fellows will receive financial compensation to cover their additional costs of living during their stay in Germany. The minimum duration of Fellowships is three months, and the maximum duration is twelve months. The deadline for applications is 14 July 2024. RIFS Fellow Program

Canadian International Development Research Center — IDRC Research Awards 2025

The International Development Research Center (IDRC) makes research awards to citizens and permanent residents of Canada and to citizens of developing countries (India and Kenya). The award provides for a one-year paid program of research in addition to hands-on experience in research management, grant administration, and the use of knowledge from an international perspective. Six positions are available at IDRC’s head office in Ottawa (Canada). Program areas include climate resilience and sustainable food systems; and several others. Applicants should be enrolled, or have previously completed, their masters or doctoral degrees at recognized universities. IDRC identifies countries not eligible for awards, as well as countries requiring prior approval. The deadline for applications (English, French) is 22 September 2024. IDRC Research Awards
