Climate Tracker seeks journalists to report on sustainability challenges such as tourism, agriculture, water, and other aspects. Successful applicants will enjoy a 6-month fellowship covering the challenges and opportunities surrounding sustainability in their country/region. Fellows receive coaching and mentoring plus a US$150 stipend per month for the duration of their fellowship to cover expenses. Applicants have to have at least one year of journalism experience. Pan African Climate Justice Alliance — African Climate Change and Environmental Reporting Awards
The African Climate Change and Environmental Reporting (ACCER) Awards aim to incentivize and create a critical mass of journalists reporting on the area of climate change and environment. The 2020 ACCER Awards contest theme is “Making Climate Action a Way of Life.” The award defines five categories for the submission of in-depth climate stories. The competition is open to all journalists from Africa working for established media houses, private or public-sector media. Freelance journalists and bloggers are also eligible. French Global Environment Facility — Sustainable Cooling and Air Conditioning
The French Global Environment Facility (FFEM) launches a new call for projects to support innovations for “Sustainable Cold Production and Air Conditioning” in developing countries. Proposed projects should focus the development of sustainable cooling or air conditioning technologies and approaches, for example, “natural” refrigerants, which are more energy efficient. Projects may be proposed in connection with the transfer of skills and technologies through capacity building programs. Eligibility extends to developing countries, with priority given to applicants from the African continent. Funding ranges from €500 thousand to €3 million per project. Climate Tracker — Sustainable Food Media Fellowship
Climate Tracker launches the Sustainable Food Media Fellowship to fund journalists from Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia to work on investigative reports about the production of food and access to sustainable diets in their home country. Stories may focus on food security in the context of COVID-19, the impacts of climate change on agriculture, or the environmental footprint of agriculture practices. Participants receive a 4-week online course followed by an 8-week fellowship to develop and publish their stories. Eligibility extends to African journalists between the ages of 18 to 35. Participants are invited to submit real pictures showing their development project and progress in local communities around the world. European Commission — Sustainable Landscape Management in São Tomé and Principe
The European Commission (EC) seeks to optimize the contribution of land to agriculture, food security, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the preservation of ecosystems in São Tomé and Principe. To achieve this goal, the EC accepts proposals for scalable pilot initiatives that help conciliate different land uses and improve land governance. The overall amount made available is €2.32 million. U.S. Department of State — Support for Environmental Cooperation
The U.S. Department of State announces funding for logistics, meetings coordination, and digital communications to support environmental cooperation between all the U.S. Free Trade Agreement countries. Funding of up to US$197 thousand will be awarded to be used for logistics and meeting coordination support for in-person and virtual meetings, as well as digital communications to promote environmental cooperation programs. Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency — Workshop: Climate Change – Mitigation and Adaptation in Eastern and Southern Africa
Sida funds short-term training in selected development topics for participants from developing countries. The international training program “Climate Change – Mitigation and Adaptation” has a strong focus on agriculture and water resources, planning and communication of climate information. The course is designed for individuals who have key positions in organizations related to national, regional or local community planning, and who are actively involved in strategic decision making. Participants have to be nominated by government organizations, private companies or NGOs in Kenya, Sudan, Mozambique, Zambia, or Zimbabwe. The training program consists of three compulsory phases. Phase 1 will take place in Mozambique (March 2021), Phase 2 will take place in Sweden (April 2021), Phase 3 will take place in Eastern and/or Southern Africa (September 2021). Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Environment and Climate Action Turkey and Central Asia
The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkmenistan. CFLI provides funding to projects that implement environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, and water management, among other thematic priorities. The average contribution is C$20 thousand to C$40 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to community organizations, non-profit organizations, local governments, academic institutions, and international non-profit organizations.
