United Nations — World Oceans Day Photo Competition 2022

The World Oceans Day aims to raise global awareness of the current challenges faced by the oceans and showcase possible solutions. The United Nations General Assembly seeks submissions to the World Oceans Day Photo Competition to share the beauty and importance of the oceans through photographs. The photo competition has seven thematic categories open for photographic submissions from all around the world. Winning images will be recognized during the United Nations’ event marking World Oceans Day 2022. Entries must be submitted by 15 April 2022. Find the contest rules

 

 

Lawrence Foundation — Grants for Environment 2022

The Lawrence Foundation makes grants to U.S. nonprofit organizations for projects in environment, human services, and other themes. There is no restriction on the geographical area where grant activities can be implemented. The average grant size is between US$5 thousand and US$10 thousand. The deadlines for applications are 30 April and 31 October of each year. Link

Melinda Gray Ardia Environmental Foundation — Grants for Environmental Education

The Melinda Gray Ardia Environmental Foundation seeks to contribute to the development, implementation, and/or field testing of environmental curricula. The objective is to empower and encourage students to become involved in solving environmental and social problems. Any organization is eligible to apply — including schools, non-profits, governmental agencies, and others. The Foundation has made grants in several developing countries. Grants are up to US$1,500. The deadline for pre-proposals is 25 January 2022. About the application process

U.S. Mission to Pakistan — Addressing Environment Protection and Climate Change to Promote Tourism

The U.S. Consulate announces funding to increase environmental awareness among people in Pakistan and address threats to the local environment and the impact that those threats may have on economic development. The project aims to better equip citizens in the northern areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with strategies to protect the environment and make the area more attractive to regional and international tourists. The grantee will carry out research on best practices for citizen activism and sustainable environmental tourism, with a particular focus on U.S. best practices. The estimated total project funding is US$40 thousand. Participation is restricted to non-profit organizations. All applications must be received by 14 March 2022. Link

U.S. Department of State — Protecting the Rights of Environmental Defenders in Africa

The U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations interested in protecting the freedoms of expression and association of environmental defenders in Africa. Proposed projects should seek to elevate local community and grassroots-based activists and improve their capacity to strategically and effectively use advocacy and litigation tools to achieve changes in policy and practices. Projects should seek to target up to three countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, with at least one focus country being Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Tanzania, or Nigeria. Total funding is up to US$1 million. The DRL welcomes applications from US-based and foreign-based non-profit organizations, institutions of higher education; and for-profit organizations. University of California — Animal Law and Policy

The UCLA Animal Law and Policy Program advances animal protection through reliable, impactful research, effective law and policy reform, and training in practical legal tools. The program funds new empirical research in a wide variety of fields (from behavioral economics to law to moral psychology). UCLA anticipates funding approximately five to seven individual projects with a suggested total budget in the range of US$1,000 to US$4,500. Scholars and researchers affiliated with an accredited academic institution of higher learning in the United States may apply. However, UCLA accepts applications from and relating to other countries, as long as the principal investigator is based at a US university. French Development Agency — Biodiversity Research Program

The French Development Agency (AFD) launches a call for expressions of interest for research on “Scaling up Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and large-scale ecological restoration: Towards changes in agricultural production, land-use and urban development models”. Each research project may request up to a maximum of €225 thousand in funding. Eligible project proponents are universities and research centers, NGOs, private foundations, international research centers and companies (including individual consultants) which will make their research public. L’OCCITANE Foundation — Biodiversity Conservation through Reforestation and Agroforestry

The L’OCCITANE Foundation funds local organizations and projects that preserve biodiversity through reforestation or agroforestry projects. The project must focus on respecting biodiversity, for example, tree plantations for conservation of threatened varieties, reforestation of degraded ecosystems and/or agroforestry practices. Financial support is limited to €10 thousand, depending on the country. Applicants have to contact the subsidiary of L’OCCITANE located in their country in order to present a project. Subsidiaries must then send the application to the Foundation by 07 February 2022. (Please note that applicants have to present their project to local subsidiaries before this deadline). Know more

European Commission — Biodiversity in Outermost Regions

The European Commission (EC) announces a call for proposals to finance small grants for biodiversity conservation and restoration action in the EU outermost regions and overseas countries located in the Caribbean, Indian Ocean, Amazon, Pacific, Polar and Subpolar and Micronesian regions. The available overall budget is €32 million. In order to be eligible, the applicants must be legal entities, be established in EU Member States or overseas countries and territories and be active in the areas of nature conservation and climate change. Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association — Plastics Training Course

The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) invites applications to the online Plastics Training Workshop. The course will include eight days of interactive learning.
