In partnership with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), icipe announces research scholarships in the African Regional Postgraduate Programme in Insect Sciences (ARPPIS). The program supports three-year doctoral research studies to prepare young researchers in Sub-Saharan Africa for internationally competitive research careers in insect and related sciences. Qualified female candidates, candidates from less privileged regions or groups, and candidates with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. Qualified nationals of French- and Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa are also especially encouraged to apply. Scholarships cover all costs of the PhD program including travel, living expenses, medical insurance, university fees, and all research and training costs. United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification — “Land for Life” Award 2017
The UNCCD presents the “Land for Life” Award for inspiring efforts in land conservation and management. Eligibility is open to individuals and institutions worldwide that are making a significant and innovative contribution to reduce the impacts of land degradation and desertification. In particular, the focus is on helping communities at risk or forced to abandon their homes due to insecurity deriving from environmental degradation. Award winners will receive a support package from the UNCCD Secretariat to include networking with interested organizations; assistance to promote the winning initiatives nationally and internationally; and opportunities to showcase them at national and international events. International Livestock Research Institute — Training in Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics
The Biosciences eastern and central Africa-International Livestock Research Institute (BecA-ILRI) Hub seeks to strengthen the capacity of the African scientific community to conduct bioscience research that will improve agricultural products and enhance food security. In support of building science capacity, the BecA-ILRI Hub is partnering with the Rwanda Agriculture Board to hold a training workshop on “Introduction to Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics” in May 2017. Applications are welcomed from qualified individuals at research institutes and universities in Burundi, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Congo, Dem Rep Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. The New Zealand Partnerships for International Development Fund is a contestable fund open to New Zealand organizations. It aims to encourage partnerships between New Zealand organizations and in-country partners in the developing world, with emphasis on the Pacific region and Southeast Asia. Priority areas for support include agriculture, fisheries, tourism, energy, and water and sanitation — among others. The Fund encourages multi-activity projects for up to five years. Disney Conservation Fund — Annual Conservation Grants 2018
The Disney Conservation Fund makes grants for wildlife studies, habitat protection, and community conservation and education in critical ecosystems around the world. DCF supports projects that build on previous work, and that have the potential to contribute to long-term conservation. Eligibility extends to U.S. nonprofit organizations. Applicants from other countries need to apply in collaboration with U.S. nonprofit partners. Grants are up to US$50 thousand for projects of up to two years. AuthorAID — Small Grants for Researchers in Developing Countries 2017
AuthorAID announces its first round of small grants in 2017 to support researchers in developing countries with travel and workshops. In this first round for 2017, AuthorAID plans to award five travel grants (US$1,500 each) and five workshop grants (US$2,500 each). AuthorAID posts the list of eligible developing countries. Earth Journalism Network — Grants for Stories on Biodiversity
The Earth Journalism Network is offering a second round of reporting grants to support the production of in-depth stories that highlight previously untold threats to global biodiversity, or explore new conservation-based solutions. Preference is for proposals that focus on new topics or stories that have not been widely covered. Eligibility for funding extends to journalists (online, print, television) and other expert media practitioners with a track record of reporting on environmental issues. The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) announces PhD scholarships available through the German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD) for doctoral studies at three universities in East Africa. They are the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Sciences and Technology (Tanzania); Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Kenya); and Makerere University (Uganda).
