This organization will serve as a strategic grant maker, capacity builder, and effectively coordinate with others working in mapping and data on the continent. Finland Ministry for Foreign Affairs — University Collaboration, Finland with Developing Countries
Finland funds the Higher Education Institutions Institutional Cooperation Instrument to support collaboration between higher education institutions in Finland and partner universities in developing countries. All subject areas are relevant. Grants will range from £300 thousand to £700 thousand, up to 80% of total project costs, for up to three years. The partner countries of highest priority are Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Somalia, Tanzania, and Zambia. Orskov Foundation — Grants for University Students in Sustainable Land Use
Orskov makes grants to support student projects in agriculture and sustainable land use in developing countries. Preference will be given to training that emphasizes animal, plant, and soil interactions. Projects should have the potential to alleviate poverty and to provide sustainable environmental benefits, including adaptation/mitigation to the impacts of climate change. Applications are invited from individuals in lower-income and lower middle-income countries. The program includes student grants up to £2,500 to support studies at a university or similar organization other than the university/college in which the applicant is registered. Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology — Training Courses, Seminars, and Workshops 2016
The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMO BIOTROP) aims to increase the knowledge and skills of ASEAN professionals and students on a wide range of topics in tropical biology. Unless otherwise indicated, training courses are conducted at the SEAMEO BIOTROP headquarter in Bogor, Indonesia. Priority is for nationals of SEAMEO member countries, especially in the sponsored courses. The current list of BIOTROP courses and seminars are scheduled from May through October 2016. The UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability is the Secretariat for ProSPER.Net (Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research Network) in the Asia-Pacific region. The ProSPER.Net Leadership Programme helps its participants to develop interdisciplinary skills for sustainable development initiatives in local, regional, or global contexts. Institute of International Education — Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program
The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) is a fellowship program for African-born academics currently living in the USA and Canada, and working in higher education. Fellows engage in educational projects for periods ranging from two weeks to three months at universities and colleges in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. There are no restrictions by disciplinary areas. Past fellows include examples in veterinary medicine, biology, forestry, and other areas of the natural sciences. MASHAV — Policies and Economics for Green Development
Israel’s Agency for International Development (MASHAV) supports professional short courses in Israel in subject areas that include agriculture, energy, health, education, and social development. In collaboration with the Weitz Center for Sustainable Development, MASHAV announces a course on policies and economic measures for local and regional green growth, scheduled for October-November 2016. A limited number of scholarships are available to cover course fees, accommodation, medical insurance, and other expenses in Israel. Applications are submitted through Israel’s diplomatic missions. U.S. Department of State — Reducing Mercury Use in Andean Gold Mining
The U.S. State Department plans to award up to US$145 thousand for 18 months to design and test mobile training centers to reduce mercury use in small-scale gold processing in Bolivia and Peru. Eligibility for funding extends to higher educational institutions and research centers in the USA that have established relationships with regional institutions and/or organizations. University of Cape Town — CSAG Winter School 2016
The Climate Systems Analysis Group (CSAG) at the University of Cape Town organizes a “winter school” intensive course, with the next one scheduled for five days in June-July 2016. The course is presented by facilitators from CSAG and other institutions to take participants through the full spectrum of topics related to climate and climate change, with an emphasis on issues in developing countries. CSAG offers partial sponsorships to some participants. The first application deadline is 09 May 2016; the final deadline is 30 May 2016. Link
