Topics of discussion could include innovative waste management solutions; the roles of local and state governments in waste management; technological innovation; commercial opportunities in waste management; and bilateral cooperation. The Foundation works primarily in the USA on issues that are national and international. The Researcher Links Workshops bring together early-career researchers from the UK and partner countries to allow them to make international connections that can improve the quality of their research. The current call is for bilateral workshops of 3-5 days between the UK and Russia. Proposals must be joint applications, with one coordinator based at a UK institution and one based in Russia. The Czech Republic provides scholarships to support nationals from developing countries at public institutions of higher education in the Czech Republic. The fields of study include ecology, wildlife management, natural resources, forestry, and tropical agriculture (among others). Applications need to be submitted before 30 September of each year. The Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), in partnership with CRDF Global, welcomes applications from Qatari and Qatar-born female PhD students and MSc graduates for the Women in Science fellowship. The selected WIS fellows will spend four months at a U.S. university department under the direction of leading female researchers for work in one of the following four topics: ecology of infectious diseases; environmental science; cyber security; or materials science in energy. CRDF Global will coordinate the travel arrangements and accommodations for all selected fellows for the duration of the fellowship. The application deadline has been extended to 30 September 2016. The program Agriculture for Food Security 2030 (AgriFoSe2030) is a partnership of Swedish universities, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). AgriFoSe2030 offers a one-week course for post-doc students and senior researchers who have a demonstrated interest in scientific reviews, and who would like to learn meta-analysis methodology. The course will be held on the ICRAF campus in Nairobi in November-December 2016. Preference is for participants involved in AgriFoSe2030. PhD students in the final phases of their studies can also be accepted if highly motivated. Students from both natural and social science / economics backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The J. William Fulbright-Hillary Rodham Clinton (Fulbright-Clinton) Fellowship is a component of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The fellowships provide professional experience and research opportunities in public policy areas that include agriculture, energy, environment, and others. Host countries in 2017-2018 are the African Union, Burma (Myanmar), Chile, Cote d’Ivoire, Guatemala, Kosovo, Malawi, Nepal, Peru, Samoa, Timor-Leste, and Ukraine. AuthorAID announces its second round of small grants in 2016 to support researchers in developing countries with travel and workshops. In this second round, AuthorAID plans to award six travel grants (US$1,500 each) and six workshop grants (US$2,500 each). AuthorAID posts the list of eligible developing countries. The STEM Prize aims to encourage young Cameroonians and other Africans, especially girls and young women, to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Applications are invited from teams of three to five persons who submit a project that has the greatest potential to positively improve their communities. Applicants must be between the ages of 13 and 21 and be citizens in one of the following countries: Cameroon, Chad, Central Africa Republic, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, or Gabon. The top teams will be invited to the foundation’s headquarters in Yaoundé to participate in a 3-day workshop focusing on research, career guidance, and project implementation.
