The RBC’s Blue Water Project makes grants for watershed protection and safe drinking water in two programs. (i) The Community Action Grants are up to $10 thousand for local and community organizations in Canada, USA, and the Caribbean. (ii) Leadership Grants ranging from $10 thousand to $100 thousand are available in North America and other countries where RBC does business (including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Chile, and Uruguay).  For Leadership Grants, applicants send an expression of interest before 04 November 2016. For Community Action Grants, the application deadline is 23 December 2016. Link

USAID will fund a 5-year program in Madagascar (the “RANO WASH program”) to expand the country’s supply of potable water and improve sanitation in approximately 250 rural communes. The program will work with the Government of Madagascar, NGOs and private enterprises, academic and research institutions, and others to achieve sustainable water management for households and municipalities. USAID aims to assist Jordan with water-saving technologies and practices.  The measures include interventions for safe water collection and storage; improved public awareness about water conservation; incentives for financing water infrastructure; and others.  The 5-year program will focus in communities most impacted by immigration, and it will also support water-conserving technologies in agriculture. NERC and the UK’s Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council invite applications from UK scientists to attend a workshop organised jointly with India’s Department of Science & Technology on the theme of improved water quality in India. The workshop will be held in Delhi (November 2016) to define the scope of a potential new interdisciplinary research programme by the two countries. The UK Government will cover reasonable travel and subsistence expenses for UK participants. The application deadline is 16 September 2016. Link

The Human Development Innovation Fund (HDIF) is funded by the UK government to create social impact in education, health and water, and sanitation and hygiene (WASH) across Tanzania. The Mawazo Challenge invites ideas to design a competition or award scheme that will foster and support promising ideas to solve problems in these areas. The best three ideas will be awarded cash prizes, including five million Tanzanian shillings for the first prize. The application deadline (first stage) is 15 August 2016. Link

USAID-Yerevan will fund the project Participatory Utilization and Resource Efficiency of Water (PURE-Water) to improve the quality and use efficiency of water resources in the Ararat Valley. Activities will focus on the participation of Armenian civil society in policy development and small-scale pilot projects for integrated water management. The U.S. State Department plans to award up to US$145 thousand for 18 months to design and test mobile training centers to reduce mercury use in small-scale gold processing in Bolivia and Peru. Eligibility for funding extends to higher educational institutions and research centers in the USA that have established relationships with regional institutions and/or organizations.
