The Baillet Latour Antarctica Fellowship of €150 thousand over two years provides young scientists with the opportunity to conduct research in East Antarctica. The program is open to young researchers in atmospheric sciences, glaciology, and geosciences and microbiology (excluding marine microbiology). USAID will fund projects in support of its broad objectives under its program for Eastern and Southern Caribbean Science, Technology, Innovations, and Partnerships. These objectives include one to reduce risks and adapt to the impacts of global climate change. The Science of Risk Prize for 2016 invites research papers in two categories: natural hazards; and systems modelling. Among other types of risks, Lloyd’s is interested in the impact and management of climate change. The competition offers prizes of £5 thousand for the best research paper in each category. The PACEsetter Fund aims to accelerate the commercialization of off-grid clean energy by providing early-stage grants that allow businesses to develop and test innovative products, business models, and systems. Projects must focus on small-scale systems that improve the viability of off-grid renewable energy for under-served individuals and communities in India that do not have grid-connected power, or that have limited or intermittent access. Global Observation of Forest and Land Cover Dynamics (GOFC-GOLD) is an international program to provide space-based and in-situ observations of forests and other land cover. These observations are intended to support sustainable management of natural resources and to help provide a better understanding of the terrestrial carbon budget. In association with START, GOFC-GOLD will hold its fifth data initiative in October 2016 for advanced training on access, management, use, and application of earth observation data. The training will be offered at the Sirindhorn Center for Geo-Informatics, Space Krenovation Park, in Thailand. The course is designed for young scientists associated with the GOFC-GOLD regional networks, especially in Southeast Asia. UN-Habitat welcomes expressions of interest to build a Multifunctional Clean Energy Centre in one of the secondary towns of Cameroon. The project will serve as a demonstration center for sustainable building design, renewable energy, and provision of sanitation service through a public toilet. UN-Habitat will contribute a maximum of US$35 thousand towards the implementation of the project. The North India Office of the U.S. Embassy New Delhi invites program proposals for a series of university-level youth debates on climate change and related environmental issues. The aim is to raise awareness about the complex conversations in this subject among college youth in the Indian states and territories of Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. The U.S. Department of State will make one grant for approximately US$400 thousand to assist Morocco with a competition to help build capacity to mitigate the impacts of climate change through the use of clean energy and energy-efficient technologies. The challenge will feature small grants for workshops on energy technologies, public policy, and business development. The LEDS Global Partnership offers fellowships for individuals and teams of practitioners to be embedded with leading institutions to learn practical lessons that they can apply to low-emission development strategies and/or nationally determined contributions in their home countries. Fellowships will be awarded to individuals or groups of national or sub-national government officials who play a significant role within LEDS development or implementation.
