Awards for innovations which have regional or global importance for environmental sustainability

The Volvo Environment Prize honors innovations or discoveries — scientific, socioeconomic, or technological — which are significant in the environmental field, and which have global or regional importance.

Laureates of the Volvo Environment Prize represent all fields of studies and initiatives in environment and sustainability — in developing as well as in industrialized countries.

 
Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources

Awards in environmental science and innovation. Recent winners of the Prize include individuals in the following thematic areas (among others):

  • Energy efficiency;
  • Marine ecosystems;
  • Atmospheric sciences and climate change;
  • Biodiversity and conservation;
  • Coping with urbanization in developing countries;
  • Environmental improvement through empowerment of people;
  • Environmental and resource economics.

To date, most candidates for the Prize are scientists and engineers in environmental protection, life sciences, earth sciences, and social sciences. Priority is given to an individual or to a group of named individuals, rather than to institutions.

The cash award for the Prize is SEK 1.5 million (approximately US$150 thousand), in addition to a diploma and trophy. > About the Prize

APPLICATION: The Prize is awarded on an annual cycle. The website posts a calendar deadline for nominations. The Foundation invites individuals as well as organizations (e.g., universities, research institutes) to submit nominations.

Nominations are submitted in English. Each nomination focuses on the achievement of the nominated person, along with that individual’s CV and list of publications. > About how to nominate
