The Pro Natura Fund is managed by the Pro Natura Foundation to support research on biodiversity conservation, and on the relationship between humans and the environment.
Grants are made in Japan and developing countries.
Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources
Grants for biodiversity research and education. The Fund makes grants in support of the following types of activities:
- Survey research related to species conservation;
- Ecological research in areas facing development pressures;
- Research on alien species;
- Wildlife research, including human-animal relationships; and
- Dissemination of environmental knowledge (books, websites, etc.).
Grants are made in Japan and developing countries. Most grants are made in Japan. “Overseas” grants are usually fewer than 10 per year.
Grant recipients are individuals and organizations. Most grants are to individual researchers, small nongovernmental organizations, and citizens groups.
International (“overseas”) grants generally range from ¥500 thousand to ¥1 million.
APPLICATION: The Fund announces an annual grants competition on its website.
Applicants submit application forms and recommendation forms. These forms are posted on the Fund’s website, or they can be requested from the Fund’s Secretariat.
International applications are submitted to the Fund via a Japanese “recommender.” Applicants complete the application form in English or Japanese. If an application is prepared in English, the recommender is required to add a Japanese translation. The recommender completes the required recommendation form in Japanese. Finally, the recommender sends all application documents to the Fund’s Secretariat.
