The Australia and Pacific Science Foundation (APSF) encourages high-quality research in activities that seem likely to lead to improved systems of managing land, water, plants, and animals. The ultimate aim is to conserve the natural environment, preserve biodiversity, avoid pollution of soils and water, and enhance human health and welfare.
The Foundation makes seed grants in the biological and biophysical sciences in Australia and the Southwest Pacific region, and it supports specific components of large projects financed primarily by other agencies.
ASPF also encourages capacity building in biological sciences for the benefit of the developing countries of the Pacific region.
Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources
Grants for research in biological and biophysical sciences. The ASPF makes research grants in the biological and biophysical sciences (except medical research). It also provides occasional support for training, publications, and conferences.
Examples of funded projects include topics in ecology, species biology, species distribution, plant and animal classification, vegetation management, conservation strategies, and others.
Most of ASPF’s grants are made to researchers in universities, zoological and botanical gardens, natural history museums, and other research centers and institutes in Australia. A smaller number of grants are made to researchers in similar institutions in the Pacific Island countries.
APSF normally provides grants up to A$15 thousand per year (for up to three years).
APPLICATION: APSF provides grants criteria, guidelines, and an application form. Applicants submit a project overview, research plan, expected outcomes, budget, qualifications statements, and supporting materials.
Applications are submitted to the Foundation before the annual calendar deadline posted on APSF’s website.
