European Commission — Regeneration of Natural Resources and Ecosystems

The European Commission (EC) aims to contribute to sustainable and inclusive transformation of food systems in Malawi. EC seeks projects that focus on better preservation, restoration and regeneration of the natural resource base and its diverse ecosystems. Applicants can request between €750 thousand and 1 million for project implementation. Eligibility extends to district councils in Malawi. International Nature Image Festival — Biodiversity Short Films Contest

The International Nature Image Festival (FIIN) invites submissions of short films (duration 5-28 minutes) that promote biological natural heritage, natural regions, ecosystems, habitats and species of wild fauna and flora. All formats including animations, documentaries, fiction, experimental films and music videos are eligible. There are no regional restrictions for participation in the contest. Zoological Society of London — EDGE Fellowships 2023

The EDGE of Existence Program provides fellowships for two-year projects in research and conservation of EDGE (Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered) mammals, amphibians, corals, and birds. The program is open to early-career conservation biologists who are nationals or residents of the country in which the EDGE species occur. The focus in 2023 is EDGE species in Latin America, the Pacific & the Caribbean islands. EDGE Fellows receive a grant of up to £10 thousand; an opportunity to attend two regional training courses and to undertake online modules in relevant topics; and one-to-one support from a scientific advisor. United States-India Educational Foundation — Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowships 2024-2025

The Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowships support Indians residing in India to pursue a master’s degree program at selected U.S. colleges and universities. The many eligible subject areas include environmental sciences such as agricultural sciences, natural resource management, pollution prevention, environmental law, environmental engineering, and environmental policy analysis (among others). UNICEF — Venture Fund for Tech Solutions

The UNICEF Venture Fund makes up to US$100 thousand in equity-free investments to provide seed funding to for-profit start-ups developing frontier technology solutions that can positively impact the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children and youth. The fund supports technology solutions from different fields, as long as they benefit vulnerable populations, including but not limited to, agriculture, water, and energy. Blue Action Fund — Asia-Pacific Region

The Blue Action Fund announces a new open call for grant proposals focusing on the Asia-Pacific Region. The Fund provides individual grants to selected conservation projects with focus on marine protected areas (MPAs) to support conservation of biodiversity, and projects that seek to enhance livelihood conditions and food security. The Fund will award grants of €2-4 million. Eligible applicants are non-profit organizations with proven experience in coastal and marine conservation and sustainable livelihood development in the area. Applicants must provide match funding of at least 25% of the total project costs. The deadline for submission is 08 September 2023. Link to the call

Banyan Tree Global Foundation — Greater Good Grants

Bayan Tree Global Foundation accepts applications for the “2024 Greater Good Grants,” which aim to impactful initiatives that benefit local communities and environments in Mexico, Cuba, Morocco, Islands in Eastern Africa and Southeast Asia. The main focus areas for projects include freshwater access, alternative livelihood development that protects the environment, management of food waste and humanitarian themes. Emerging Wildlife Conservation Leaders — Training Program 2023

The Emerging Wildlife Conservation Leaders’ training program helps develop early-career conservation professionals through a combination of skills training, networking opportunities, and the completion of a global wildlife conservation initiative. Participation in the program lasts for two years. Applicants should have at least three years experience in wildlife conservation, with at least 15 years in the profession ahead of them. International applicants must show an ability to cover the cost of two flights to the USA, and must be fluent in English. Applications will be accepted until from 01-31 October 2023. More

UK Government — Darwin Plus for British Overseas Territories

The Darwin Initiative contributes knowledge that links biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction in low and middle-income countries. Darwin Plus Fellowships aim to build capacity within the UK Overseas Territories through training opportunities. There are two different budget templates for projects requesting over and under £100 thousand. The Project Leader can be based in any country. However, all Darwin Plus projects are expected to seek in-territory partners. Projects led by in-territory partners/organizations are encouraged. Asia Foundation — Grants for Environment and Development

The Asia Foundation makes grants in a wide variety of program areas, including Environment. Thematic interests in ‘Environment’ include natural resource management and use; water resource management and transboundary water sharing; climate change adaptation and resilience; disaster preparedness and risk reduction; urban environmental issues; and women and the environment.
