Smithsonian Institution — Fellowship Program 2023

The Smithsonian Institution annually awards fellowships for independent study or research at one or more of the Smithsonian’s 19 units and research centers, including the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI). The awards include: graduate student fellowships; predoctoral fellowships; postdoctoral fellowships; and senior fellowships. Stipends and allowances vary from US$8 thousand for two weeks to up to US$55 thousand per year, depending on the applicant’s experience. The fellowship program is open to qualified applicants worldwide. Applicants contact Smithsonian’s staff members (find link in the announcement) to identify potential advisors, and to determine the feasibility of their proposed research. Cape Cod Bird Club — Small Grants for Well-Being and Protection of Birds

The Cape Cod Bird Club (CCBC) offers grants of up to US$1000 to support conservation efforts relating directly or indirectly to the well-being or protection of birds. Due to limited funds, for 2022-23, CCBC accepts applications only from proposers working in the Western Hemisphere where many Cape Cod migrants spend some part of their lives. Eligibility extends to organizations that need seed money to begin or additional funding to continue. Applications are reviewed and funded twice a year with deadlines on 01 May and 01 November. Watson Institute — Western Union Foundation Fellowship

The Western Union Foundation Fellowship is for young entrepreneurs and community leaders who are from highly marginalized, refugee, and forcibly displaced communities around the globe. The 16-week-long program is designed to equip entrepreneurs with the skills and experience to transform their communities. US$25 thousand in seed funding will be distributed among the Fellows. The Watson Institute accepts applicants from the following countries: Mexico, Kenya, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, France, Germany, India, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, and Afghanistan. Royal Geographical Society — Gilchrist Fieldwork Award

The Royal Geographical Society invites applications for the Gilchrist Fieldwork Award. The aim of the award is to support challenging overseas fieldwork projects carried out by a team of university academics and researchers. The team should comprise up to 10 members, the majority of whom should be British. Previous winning themes include climate change, ecosystem function, climate science and ocean circulation. East-West Center — Graduate Degree Fellowship

The Graduate Degree Fellowship provides funding for graduate students from Asia, the Pacific, and the United States to participate in capacity building and leadership development programs at the East-West Center while pursuing graduate study at the University of Hawai‘i. The fellowship covers the cost of tuition and fees, books, and housing. Eligibility extends to citizens or permanent residents of the United States, Asia, and countries in the Pacific region (including Russia). Ornithological Society of the Middle East — Trevor Poyser Species Conservation Fund

The Ornithological Society of the Middle East (OSME) makes grants to support bird research in the Middle East, Caucasus, and Central Asia. The Trevor Poyser Species Conservation Fund supports research projects that lead to clear conservation benefits for a globally threatened species that occurs within the OSME region. United People Global — Leadership Training Program

The United People Global (UPG) Sustainability Leadership training program offers young leaders from all over the world the opportunity to participate in an immersive 1-week experience on an island in the USA. UPG seeks young people (18-35 years) who want to take positive action that helps the world tackle a sustainability challenge to achieve any of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 500 young leaders will be selected to participate in an online program and receive a certification after successful completion of the online training. 60 participants will have the chance to attend the complimentary 1-week training in the USA (all costs of the program will be covered). Clean Cooking Alliance — Haiti Clean Cooking Fund

The Haiti Clean Cooking Fund provides financial and technical assistance to support the growth of clean cooking companies in Haiti. The size of individual awards will range from US$25 thousand to US$250 thousand. The Fund will give preference to companies that can provide matched funding (50%). The Fund is open to companies and nonprofit entities in Haiti. Non-Haitian Companies may participate, provided they have an interest in entering the Haitian market or partnering with a local Haitian entity to manufacture, supply, and distribute clean cooking solutions in Haiti on a commercial basis. Yale University — Young Global Scholars Program

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) offers two-week academic summer programs for high school students from all around the world. The program offers four interdisciplinary sessions on campus at Yale (USA), including sessions on Innovations in Science & Technology and Solving Global Challenges. YYGS offers the opportunity for students to apply for need-based financial aid. Furthermore, YYGS will waive the application fee if it constitutes a significant financial burden for the student’s family. The application deadline is 10 January 2023. MDPI Climate Editorial Board — Climate Travel Awards 2023

The Climate Editorial Board offers travel awards to junior scientists working on climate related research. The financial support of CHF800 can be used to attend an international conference held in 2023 focusing on climate processes of the earth. The winner of the award is expected to hold a presentation, present a poster at the conference. Applicants must be postdoctoral fellows or PhD students involved in climate related sciences.
