The Stockholm Resilience Center supports trans-disciplinary research for the governance of social-ecological systems. The special emphasis is resilience, which is the ability to deal with change and to continue to develop.

The Stockholm Resilience Center hosts the Resilience and Development Program (acronym SwedBio). The aim of SwedBio is to facilitate improved dialogue and communication about international policies in biological diversity, climate change, agriculture, marine resources, and other issues of governing the world’s resources – with emphasis on the developing countries.

In particular, SwedBio believes in the importance of promoting an exchange of views among grass-roots levels, the science community, and policy and decision makers.

Towards this aim, SwedBio manages a Collaborative Program that makes grants to network partner organizations.

Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources

SwedBio Collaborative Program. SwedBio provides funding to partner organizations which promote dialogue, awareness raising, capacity building, advocacy, and direct participation in policy processes at regional and international levels.

Partners work in thematic areas of agriculture, environmental conservation, forest governance, and the welfare of grass-roots populations.

SwedBio’s preferred partners include regional and international network organizations; action-oriented research institutes; think-tank institutions; and civil society organizations based in developing countries. Priority is for initiatives that do not receive substantial support from other Swedish sources.

In addition to its support for partner organizations, SwedBio will sometimes consider supporting activities for short periods with national groups if their objectives are linked to regional or international agendas.
