The New England Biolabs Foundation (NEBF) fosters community-based conservation of landscapes and seascapes, and the bio-cultural diversity found in these places.

NEBF makes grants for art and conservation. In conservation, the Foundation works in selected countries of Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. It also makes grants locally in the USA’s New England region.

The Foundation’s thematic priorities in conservation are:
  • Conserving biological diversity;
  • Sustaining cultural and linguistic diversity, as well as traditional knowledge systems and practices;
  • Maintaining ecosystem services for water, soil, and carbon sequestration;
  • Supporting food security and economic vitality of local communities; and
  • Sustaining healthy marine environments and sustainable fisheries.

NEBF funds projects that promote indigenous and community-based conservation; ecological restoration with native species; enhanced and alternative local livelihoods; environmental education and transformative education; use of the arts to convey social and environmental messages; and civic engagement of communities (e.g., public meetings, community mapping).
