The Kohlberg Foundation is a family foundation that makes grants for health and medical research; education; and environment.

The Foundation’s environmental interests are broad to include support for conservation in the USA (particularly in the Northeast and California) and internationally.


Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources

International environmental interests. Based on information about its recently funded projects, the international environmental interests of the Kohlberg Foundation include the following topics:
  • Environment linked with local livelihoods;
  • Terrestrial and marine conservation;
  • Energy efficiency and renewability;
  • Climate change.
The Foundation supports U.S.-based nonprofit organizations (foundations, associations, universities, institutes, and NGOs) that are active in its thematic areas.

The Foundation’s grants range from under US$1 thousand to over US$1 million.

APPLICATION: The Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals, but it does read short letters of inquiry (LOIs). The LOIs should be sent by postal mail to Kohlberg’s office.

After reviewing the LOIs, Kohlberg may request selected applicants to submit formal proposals.
