The Kerzner Marine Foundation fosters the preservation and enhancement of marine ecosystems through scientific research, education, and community outreach.

The Foundation’s priority is protecting tropical marine ecosystems, increasingly threatened by pressures of population and over-exploitation.

Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources

Marine Conservation and Research. The Foundation has the following grant-making interests:
  • Marine protected areas;
  • Conservation of coral reefs;
  • Cetacean conservation and research.
Grants are made to tax-exempt charitable organizations, most of which are well-established conservation organizations in the USA that have international programs.

Most grants range from US$50 thousand to US$100 thousand.

APPLICATION:  Kerzner does not accept letters of inquiry or unsolicited proposals. The Foundation relies on its staff and advisors to ask for proposals from relevant organizations.


Geographical Distribution of Grant Activities in Developing Countries

Kerzner’s emphasis is marine conservation in the Caribbean, Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Additionally, it currently supports projects in the Maldives and Bangladesh.

In 2010, grant expenditures were US$387 thousand for six grants.

The Foundation was started with US$5 million in 2004 by Kerzner International Limited, which has subsidiaries to develop destination resorts, casinos, and luxury hotels.
