The program area of importance in the Terra Viva Grants Directory is “Conservation.”

Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources

Conservation (of the Natural World). This program area has the following interests for projects in the UK and internationally.
  • Protection of threatened animals, plants and habitats;
  • Promotion of better understanding of and solutions to major environmental issues like climate change and biodiversity;
  • Promotion of sustainable ways of living, including renewable energy technologies.
Ellerman favors making grants to organizations which offer practical and sustainable benefits at significant scale; which collaborate and share ideas; which are able to work at the community level; and which recruit, train, and employ a broad base of volunteers.

The Foundation accepts applications from registered and exempt charities with a UK office. Most recipients of international grants in the Conservation program area are UK-based conservation organizations that have international programs or projects.

Grants are for one or two years, and exceptionally three years. Ellerman’s minimum grant is £10 thousand. Most grants in Conservation range from £20 thousand to £40 thousand.

APPLICATION:  Grant seekers begin by reviewing the Foundation’s guidelines and restrictions. -- Link

Eligible grant seekers send a short letter of inquiry (LOI) to the Foundation. The LOI should summarize the organization’s work, and explain the reasons for the funding request. The LOI should be accompanied by the organization’s latest annual report and audited accounts.

If the proposal is of interest to its Board, Ellerman sends an application form to the grant seeker. Elllerman does not have deadlines for applications.

Grant seekers should consult Ellerman’s grants list for the kinds of activities and organizations that Ellerman supports.  They should also review the frequently asked questions (FAQ).
