The G. Unger Vetlesen Foundation supports religious, charitable, scientific, literary, and educational initiatives in New York, elsewhere in the USA, and throughout the world.

The Foundation makes grants for research and operational support in marine and ocean conservation, earth sciences, climate change, and wildlife management.

Grant Programs for Agriculture, Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources

Grants in Natural and Earth Sciences. The Foundation’s interests include:
  • Oceanography;
  • Marine biology and fisheries;
  • Wildlife management;
  • Climate studies and atmospheric sciences; and
  • Geophysics.
Grants are to nonprofit charitable organizations, mainly in the USA. Among the Foundation’s grant recipients are numerous universities, other educational and scientific institutions, and a few conservation NGOs.

Grant size is highly variable. Most grants range from US$10 thousand to US$700 thousand.

APPLICATION:   Interested grant seekers are invited to submit a letter of inquiry (LOI) according to guidelines on the Foundation’s website. These can be submitted at any time during the year.

If the LOI receives a favorable response, the Foundation will request a detailed proposal, and it may schedule a meeting with the prospective grantee. Proposals are reviewed twice a year.
