Here we choose sources within the organizations and networks of the green sector that offer information on grants and related funding opportunities.  Some sources are specific for agriculture, energy, environment, or natural resources.  Other sources are cross-cutting.

AFREPREN/FWD  Link

Network of African energy researchers and policy makers, representing about 20 African countries.  Promoting clean and affordable energy.

Energy Planet  Link

The Renewable Energy Directory is a guide to internet sites on renewable energy, many categories.  Profiles and links to more than 1,500 websites on energy.

The Global Village Energy Partnership promotes access to appropriate modern energy technologies.  Announcements, events, publications, and online materials.

Household Energy Network (HEDON)    Link

HEDON’s focus is improved household energy, with focus on the developing countries.  Interest groups by topics and regions.

African Conservation Foundation  Link

The ACF implements field projects in Africa -- and offers databases, discussion forums, and other information resources.

AZA is a nonprofit organization for the advancement of zoos and aquariums in conservation, education, science, and recreation.  AZA-accredited institutions support more than 3,700 conservation projects annually in more than 100 countries.

Online database of over 1,250 conservation projects in the Americas, with emphasis on Latin America.  Program of Rainforest Alliance.

  • Each project profile identifies its principal funder(s).

***Environmental Funders Network  Link

Informal network of trusts, foundations, and individuals that make grants for environment and conservation in UK and internationally. Resources, news, and links on conservation funding.

  • Profiles of EFN grant makers, including some that are active internationally.  Link

***Environmental Grantmakers Association  Link

Network of over 200 member foundations in North America and worldwide.  Information sharing, promotion of environmental philanthropy.  Mix of free and restricted information.

***GEF-NGO Network  Link

The GEF-NGO Network comprises several hundred non-governmental organizations worldwide whose work in environment and sustainable development aligns with the mandate of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

  • Coordinates with the GEF Small Grants Program.

RedLAC – Latin American and Caribbean Network of Environmental Funds   Link

Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research   Link

APN is a network of over 20 member country governments that promote global change research in the Asia-Pacific region.

Both ENDS   Link

Dutch nongovernmental organization which collaborates with partners in the developing world for projects on water, land, and capital.   The Service Desk responds to questions from development NGOs in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Central and Eastern Europe.

Danish Development Research Network   Link

Network of more than 2,300 researchers and practictioners in Denmark and other countries. The website offers an extensive information base to find events, partners, publications, and funding announcements.

European Tropical Forest Research Network  Link

Network of organizations and researchers in Europe focused on forest research in the tropics, sub-tropics, and Mediterranean countries.

FAO Forestry Department   Link

FAO maintains the online Sourcebook on Funding for Sustainable Forest Management on behalf of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests.

  • Description of global funding mechanisms for forests/environment. 

Global Development Network  Link

Support for development policy and multi-disciplinary research in developing countries.  Global Development Awards, regional research competitions, news and announcements, events.

  • Announcements include calls for proposals, fellowships, other funding opportunities.
  • “Funding Opportunities Newsletter“ is free to researchers in low and middle-income countries.   Link

International network to promote markets and payments for ecosystem services.

RECOFTC   Link

RECOFT is an international nonprofit organization that specializes in capacity building for community forestry and devolved forest management in the Asia-Pacific region.  It is active in training; networking and communications; and field projects.

Science and Development Network   Link

International electronic journal of news, views, and information about science and technology in the developing world.  Global coverage, with some content in multiple languages.  Topics include agriculture and environment, and climate change and energy.
