  • Grants by agencies and departments of the Australian government.  Includes about 250 national, state, and local government funders in Australia.   

British Library for Development Studies   Link
  • BLDS labels itself as Europe’s largest research collection on economic and social change in developing countries.  Books, journals, subject guides, and other library services at the Institute of Development Studies include some references on funding.

Canada Government    Link
  • Government site describing governance structure, services offered, and resources available.  See “Canada International” on the home page.  Link 
  • Use advanced search feature for key words related to international grants, country names, and topics.

CharityVillage   Link
  • News, information resources, and training for nonprofit organizations in Canada and internationally. Mix of free and restricted information resources.
  • Large website in English and French, with extensive “Resources and Library.”  Link 

Development Gateway   Link

Online resources about projects funded by aid-giving governments and international organizations.   Mix of free and paid information resources.

  • AidData is an online directory of past and ongoing development assistance projects. 
  • Country Gateways are sites of national development information in more than 20 countries. 
  • dgMarket provides current notices of tenders and consultancies for development projects worldwide.

Directory of Development Organizations  Link
  • Directories of over 70,000 organizations in international development, by six world regions.  Organizations are listed by categories, including a category for grant makers.

Eldis   Link

Online library for development policy, practice, and research.  Extensive information resources and global coverage. 

  • Announcements include funding opportunities. 

EuropeAid Cooperation Office  Link

Guide to EU external assistance, general and specific.  Procedures and standard documents for grants and tenders funded by the European Commission.  Annual work programmes (AWP) for grants by regions, countries, and themes.  

  • Database of calls for proposals.

  • Guide to financial support from European governments for reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and population assistance in developing countries.   Despite this thematic focus, this is a valuable resource on European government funding for grant seekers across all sectors. 

***Funds for NGOs   Link

A very active website focused on grant opportunities for NGOs in the developing world across sectors (health, education, humanitarian issues, environment, and all others).  Short profiles of selected multilateral, bilateral, and foundation funders. 

  • Lists calls for applications (with deadlines). 

Grants.gov (USA)   Link

Website of the USA’s national (federal) government on over 1,000 grant programs of 25 government departments and agencies.  

  • Search grants database by topic, agency, type of funding instrument, eligibility requirements, dates, and key words (e.g., “international”).

Latin America Donor Index   Link

Searchable database in Spanish, Portuguese, and English of over 500 donor (grant making) organizations active in Latin America.

  • Database includes international, regional, and national grant makers across all development sectors. 

Network of International Development Organizations in Scotland  Link

NIDOS helps strengthen Scotland's role in international development -- with emphasis on communications, networking, and capacity building. 

  • Newsletters (download from the site) contain funding updates on international programs of Scotland, UK, and Europe.

New Zealand Government   Link

Government news, programs, agency contact information, and more.   Search by combining key words (e.g., international grants).

Official Journal of the European Union – C Series and S Series   Link

Published every working day in all official languages of the EU.  Most important series for international grant seekers and contractors are “C” and “S.”  Mix of free and paid information resources.


Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)   Link

Development Assistance Committee (DAC) publishes aid guidelines, aid statistics, and current topics in development aid. 

  • Of special interest:  Peer reviews of aid giving by its member (donor) governments.  Link

ProPoor  Link

Internet portal for information, resources, and news about development work in South Asia. 

  • Searchable databases: donors, resources, NGOs, projects, and others. 

The Funding Site   Link

Resources to strengthen nonprofit organizations in South Africa.   Mix of free and paid information resources.

  • Database of 1,500 grant makers (South Africa and international), and database of South African nonprofit organizations.
  • Requests for proposals, resources for fundraising, and other support for NGOs.  

UK Collaborative on Development Sciences Link

UKCDS is a collaboration of  UK funders and other stakeholders with an interest in international development research.  Thematic areas include climate change, agriculture, water resources, energy, environment, and others. 

  • “Funding” webpages announce new opportunities.
  • Information on UK and EU international research programs.

  • Information services on European funding, with emphasis on the EU.  Mix of free and paid information resources.
